Would be interesting to see who would win a purse bid between Woods' people and the Romanian's as Id imagine they must have some clout to win a purse bid vs Dawson's people.

Personally, I don't blame him. I wouldn't go to Romania on the off chance something fishy happens.

From what i've read elsewhere, it seems Dawson has a genuine reason for not wanting to go. If he fought in Romania he'd have to pay a huge portion of his purse in taxes, fees etc. Something ridiculous like 70/75%.

Of course that could just be the way his team are spinning it if he just doesn't fancy it.

I don't see it as a ridiculous move. Let's not forget that Diaconu is the one who scuppered the origianl date through injury and now Dawson has a big fight with Tarver lined up. I know which fight I'd take if I was him.

Obviously someone like Diaconu needs an opportunity to prove himself against an established name, but from Dawson's point of view he's gonna take the bigger fight.

Lets get the facts straight Dawson is definitely not ducking Diaconu - they were scheduled to fight and then it was Diaconu who pulled out due to injury - otherwise Dawson would have faced him then and instead took out late sub Jesus Ruiz. From reading what was said by Dawson's camp it didn't seem financially viable for him to defend in Romania. I do like to see a champ defend in the other guys backyard and all that but even if Dawson's camp are talking crap about taxes etc. its not as clear-cut as Dawson ducking Diaconu.

I agree Black Panther from what I heard - think it is harsh.... but still it could end up better for Dawson... now fighting for a legitimate belt against the legitimate #2 (if Hopkins has retired) in the devision.

Plus I don't think the old road warrior (#1 WBC contender) will mind fighting in Romania or wherever.

Woods and Francis are not ranked by the WBC.

Well Dawson must be getting well paid to fight Tarver, if that fight is signed.
The winning bid for a fight with Diaconu was $1.8 Million , of which $1 million was for Dawson.
Obviously i don't know all the ins and outs of the tax laws in Romania.
