The Wladimir Klitchsko era!

We are in it folks so get used to it! Tonight was a destruction of the top Heavyweight contender, Thomson has beat Ibragimov, Kransqi and has proven himself a decent operator, Wlad broke his heart!
Wlad may be boring but he uses a jab, straight right and never lets his opponent in it, I see no-one in the division getting close to him, hes evolved and is the business...
Is this good for Boxing, a totally differant question

Yes, methinks that jab will see to David...to say WK is crap is stupid, this guy is the Heavyweight champion and has been for ages, there is a long list of contenders who can testify that Wlad is pretty good.
Some people are mistaking being exciting with being effective

Like Haye's chances a little better now Thompson was beaten bad but until the 7th he was competitive and the punch stats could of been due to the body punches he landed when Klit held.
Haye will have to put Klitschko on the backfoot and use the right hand but not solely rely on It like he did at Cruiser. He bends down too low as he's slipping them when throwing the right as well.
Tightening up the guard will help too, left hand low will make him open to Klits right.

Wlad beats any Heavy out there right now.
Easily the best of the bunch.
He can reign for as long as he wants to.

A lot of differing opinions on this. Anyone got a link so I can see this fight?

How miserable was that last night. I've got nothing againt Vlad but the guy is clearly just as concerned with his own engine as he is with his opponent. Style wise he looks so unnatural when trying to attack, like he does the things that he thinks he should be doing. A young Tyson, Holyfield or Bowe would have absolutely pulverised him. Lewis would have toyed with him for 4 rounds before taking him out.
I don't know what training regime Thompson has been involved in but he couldn't put one explosive attack together. Very, very disappointing. With every fight like this the heavyweight scene plunges further. I don't know if David Haye can save it, I can't imagine he'd be strong enough to clinch with Klitschko although he'd bring a heck of a lot more threat that Thompson did.

WK is not a natural fighter. China chin and the only reason he is still champ is because the division is so shit.
I think Haye will scare the shit out of WK. Klitschko is as scared of getting hit as Audley.

wladimir still uses his amateur style on the outside, he has no style inside, so he clinches, but as a pro he can get away with it.

Wlad and Banks were pathetic.
Thompson offered a feeble, lethargic challenge.
Wlad should be embarrassed and ashamed.

WK was awful, robotic just throwing the 1-2 clinch and looking tentative and with his mouth open a lot of the time, if Thompson had of been any kind of puncher wlad would have been in serious trouble.
That saying I don’t think Povetkin has the speed, power or strength to beat WK, stylewise he is made for Wlad and klitscko will look good beating him down over the distance.

Right, some pretty daft comments by some respected posters!
Wlad is doing a great job of protecting his chin, hes throwing the jab, thats demorolising his opponents and if they dare to step inside they get hit with a big right. He is spoiling their work. Ive seen Thompson a few times and hes very good but Wlad just took away any offence by him. Im sure most on here have only seen Thompson once and think 'god, hes crap' but its Wlad who is making him look so bad. He is killing the division but he doesnt care, hes there to win, not to take uneccessary risks!! All these guys with punch power or big engines are getting nowhere near him. And if they get too close they get held and we get back to what was going on before!!!
Sorry lads but Wlad is here for a while yet!

Wlad proves the fact that you can train and be a good champion, or not train and only get 1 or 2 defences, Wlad works on what he's good at, smother his opponents attack , landing his own occasional punches, and leaning his full weight in a clinch on his opponent, this wears them down.
Its not exciting, but makes for a longer career for him, and alot more paydays.

You think Thompson is very good? I have seen him a few times and he looked beter than he did last night, but does that make WK a good champion or more than a robotic big lump?
WK is BASIC!!
it is WKs size that helps him, but he is so open and rubbish that a good fast fighter than can close the distance on him will be able to reach that chin of his and its night night frankenstein!
Haye may be the one to do it - I want to see this fight asap!

Haye said he was 233lbs last night, anyone think he'd be better lower? His shoulders have looked bulky at that weight which he walked around with before the Mormeck fight.

60/40 is favour of Frankenstein.
Alex might just do it - but Haye does it.

His chin was still hit quite a bit by Thompson though at times and he was hit to the body alot as soon as he held onto to Thompson.
Manny Steward's taken his dominance away, turned him very negative although It's effective, he should be docked points for the over excessive holding though and pulling them down. Cortez never gave a shit strangely.

Alex lacks the head movement, but he has workrate and could hit WK to the body alot when Klit holds. Think Alex will take too many right hands though.

He also said he's working on being faster than he was at Cruiserweight, which is an interesting comment. We'll just have to wait and see.

David Haye was talking very positvely last night and it as very refreshing to hear.
I think he has the style to beat Klit as well. The Russian looked very stiff and only wanted to fight at long range, David is capable of slipping Klits predictable shots, rolling inside and unloading bombs on Dr.Frankeinsteins vunerable chin.
I was interested to hear that he had no intention of fighting Barrett as he is just another 38 year old journeyman, and is going to fight at a level above that in his heavyweight debut. He is still saying we are going to get a big name to 10 opponent, excting times ahead.
The fight apparently is going to be in November so Maeskaev is still an option

I wonder how much commentary played a part in the generally negative opinions of Wlad-Thompson. I might be completely off the mark here, but would I be right to assume the commentary was negative/critical? I have heard Bunce was, at least.
My point is I watched this fight in a bar which played music rather than TV sound, and I thought it was a thoroughly decent performance by Wlad (I'm not a Klitschko fanboy, by the way; I was rooting for Thompson). No, he's never going to set pulses racing, but as somebody said, people often equate excitement with talent (and lack of excitement with lack of talent), which is not necessarily true or fair.
Thompson IS a good fighter, and his record bears this out. He made an excellent start and had the right gameplan, fast and aggressive and hitting Wlad in the clinches. Wlad looked uncomfortable against a man who could almost match him for height and reach. but Thompson tasted Wlad's power in the second and went into his shell a bit, but he - and we - were probably expecting Wlad to tire later. He didn't - he finished strong. He was also a damn sight more aggressive than in some recent fights (he actually threw a right hand in the first round!). So, his strategy was spot on, his stamina was improved, and he dealt with a highly-ranked contender in conclusive fashion. What more do you want?
Perhaps Thompson could have made more of a fist of it, considering what he did in round one worked very well, but then those who are questioning his resolve weren't getting rammed in the face repeatedly by 86-inch-long Terminator-like pistons of sinew.

That may well be true. Klit does what he does and does it pretty well, but he doesn't really have a plan B and looks one dimensianal.
On the other hand Thompson did have little head movement, and his resolve was certaintly broken by the Russian, leaving him to quit.
I think Klit is being judged at a higher level, he has won quite conclusively against the available contenders, but it is felt he is not in Lennox Lewis's class and perenial old time contenders like Tubbs, Dokes, Bonecrusher, Witherspoon etc would prob beat him too.
I actually agree with this and Bunce is right in saying that the contenders coming out of the U.S are relatively sub standard. However Bunce is very colourful in his speech, quite entertaining actually, but was prob a bit over the top(as usual) in driving his point home

I watched the fight in a noisy kitchen with a few people and can't say I noticed the commentary at all.
Vlad is clearly the #1 heavyweight no doubt, but the standard is SO low these days. Guys like Thompson, with no explosive ability, should not be getting near the top 10 in boxing.
Awful, awful state of affairs.
