missed the fight-didnt like the sound of his opponent.anjyone see it-comments please.Read article re taylor possibly getting up in WBA rankings(like top 15 -with this win???????)and possibly trying to get another shot.surely this is lunacy.or will we see, assuming shannon keeps winning, that Sturm will be fed another aussie(just a different kettle of fish ie.instead of a young fighter out of his league he will get an older fighter way past his best.regardless a likely victory0.
Whats the story?Or was the writer(who himself said nothing re sturm) just a big (and opitimistic) taylor fan???i mean his in the sixties on boxre
Hypothetically-would the current Taylor have a chance against sturm.personally i cant see it AT ALL but guess it could be argued that perhaps taylor does have some power left and if he could take 12 rounds of abraham (albeit a while back and with lopsided scores)could sturm take him out.Thing is-reckon sturm if in the position may take the fight on the assumption it would be an easyish night.
anyway just wondering as the article almost stunned me with its tale of top 15 rankings etc, especially considering the level of opponent he just fought. But it is the WBA.

Yeah, Taylor is one of the guys who just keeps getting shot after shot, without even having earned the first one, let alone any of the subsequent failures. Just an easy voluntary is all.

Taylor would have no chance against Sturm. Taylor's time, as brief as it was, is over.

I have seen this sort of thing unfold over the last few years with Taylor, he hasn't deluded himself to the point that he thinks he will get a title shot, but he is trying to create local interest in his career to get a following and get a few paydays.
In 2006 while I lived in Wagga Wagga, NSW he was sparring a local up and coming cruiser by the name of Anthony McCracken, having open spars and training sessions with him, his association with McCracken made him popular in Wagga and putting Anthony on cards in Wagga where he was the main event ensured that he would get a packed house for the promotion. In the build up to these fights he would be interviewed by the local rag stating that he his next fight ( The IBF "Australasian" light-middle Title ) was in fact going to make him a top 10 contender and he would then fight Cory Spinks for his IBF title. This was of course crap as his fights before and after that were between super-middle, middle and light-middle.
The point of the story is that he is a burnt out fighter who knowledgeable boxing fans have given up on, so he trys to convince people he is in line for a title shot so that they will come and watch him thinking they are watching Aus's next world champ.
A journo will write whatever they are told.
P.S McCrackens association with The grub is over and I can only imagine why. I couldnt see his promotions being squeky clean or paying up on time

this sort of publicity happensup here in newcastle we have two promotions coming up,one with the mouth from redfern he is already talking world titles,it gets the suckers in,i hope the undercard happens as promised ,the other is chad bennet v ? after his last fight anything can happen,he gets the crowds as he is popular with the young crowd espcially the women

Shannon was a good fighter some years and about 20 pounds ago and at this stage I suppose he has to do something to keep interest in his career. In his 140 lb days he'd be jumping onto the corner ropes after a fight yelling out "Tszyu in two. Tszyu in two"
p.s. I'm from Melbourne but will be in Newcastle in a couple of weeks time for work. Should be there for 5 or 7 days so may have to sample some Newcastle beer while I'm up there

viewed article bit more closely and was a Fairfax paper and by the sounds a regional one.thought it was odd.
personally i didnt mind taylor(as a fighter that is-many have said to me as a person, including some that knew him personally, that he wasnt the nicest bloke around)in the beginning and thought he wasnt too bad a fighter.think i figured he was gone forever when Holland beat him(albeit an early stoppage?)then getting ko'd in Engalnd(from memory). It did sound that perhaps his head was never screwed on right (and affected by numerous illegal things)and i have pondered what might of been if this were not true as i felt he did have talent. Not to mention a whopping ego(eg the Zoo comments).
interesting to read comments.others have previously suggested on this forum that he got shafted in some business dealings.Guess a case of what goes around comes around.
for some of his young and inexperienced opponents sake hope he quits or at least has the respect for boxing(

)to stop these lambs being slaughtered.
if the opinions of those wiser than myself(which is near farkin everyone here )say no way he would beat Sturm then how badly would he have done if he had fought Mundine.

.Good thing perhaps it didnt eventuate.
Still wondering how the hell he survived vs Abraham.
If he is gonna keep fighting(and he does seem very active at present) why rather than take part in mismatches does he not do something positive and become a testing stone for up and coming Aussie fighters. Ok ,i know the answer to that but just figure in an IDEAL world he would be a decent opponent to face before some of the young fellas decide to really step it up(and more often than not get there lights punched out eg Pittman).

I've said this before and therefore agree. I also agree that it will never happen. The more that people talk about Taylor, the less I like him. Wan't there a stage that he was a 'born again' type?
