Gamboa

Just saw him KTFO Al Seeger in the first. HE has world class power.

Makes our best prospect look like rubbish tbh. And he's fighting better opponents than Khan after only 10 fights. Say what you like about Ahmet Oner, but they know how to move real talents almost as good as Bruce Trampler @ Top Rank.

Yeah another big right hand did it, he really does have power.
Surprised that he can make feather, he seemed a really big superfeather.
maybe they see a quicker route to a title at the lower weight, i could see Gamboa winning a title there , but not staying in the division long. Excellent prospect though

Always thought Gamboa looked too short & stocky at super feather. Nice result.

Gamboa is undoubtedly the most exciting prospect in world boxing and is being moved by his handlers at a frenetic pace (due to his ability levels) but he has also shown defensively fraility on occassion and an arrogance that could get him in trouble down the line if it goes unchecked.

Love watching him fight though - he is a world champ in waiting it would seem..

His "defensive frailties" are down to his arrogance, rather than any actual technical deficiency. I really feel that needs to be discerned as soon as possible. With Khan it's more about lack of actual defensive capabilities.

Thats what I said in my post - he shows a dismissive arrogance at times that could get him in trouble down the line.

He will need to tighten up against the elite but who knows if he will? Makes for exciting fights

I think he will to be honest. He's smarter than we've seen so far I believe.

To be honest, I think Gamboa just know's he's outclassing people at this level, and is taking risks he wouldn't at the top table. IMO, he's a smart enough fighter to know what he's doing, and as he steps up in class, he'll step his defensive game up.

Perfect start to a career for him really.... looking sensational - but showing the odd weakness. Good enough to get the a shot at the titles, but showing enough defensive weaknesses that he won't be completely avoided.

Best prospect in the world, and the best I've seen in a long long time.

Can anyone remember another prospect looking this good with so few fights... recently, at least?

cotto was the last prospect who looked that special. :box:

i was impressed against jimenez as well.

a lot of people bashed him for that fight.

Jiminez was a tough tough opponent... again, he showed a bit of weakness - but I think that was being sloppy, not a technical problem.

Cotto was always thought of as a good prospect, but I don't think after 11 fights he was anywhere near the standard of Gamboa...

first time i ever saw cotto was against joel perez on a de la hoya undercard i think it was.

that was his 15th fight and it was obvious how talented he was.

but yeah gamboa has looked pure class so far.

deffo the best prospect since cotto anyway.

Probably have to reach back to RJJ to see another fighter fly out of the ams with such eye catching punches and crippling power.

Roy was matched ambitiously in 2 of his first 3 fights (Stephan Johnson and Ron Amundsen) before disappearing to fight no bodies in Pensacloa for a time.

He re-emerged with standout, vicious, 1 rnd dismissals of Art Serwano (the silent scream) and Jorge Vaca which established him as the future champ he was to become.

Still, his time spent in Pensacola backwaters means that Jones was a slow burner in comparison to the freight train that GAmboa is fast becoming..

I think they're fast-tracking Gamboa on account of his huge amateur experience (approx. 250 fights, inc. Olympic Gold) and his age. He's already 26, so needs to get a move on. He's pretty short for a feather, but I think he's aiming to be a 3-4 weight world champ. This is one featherweight Amir Khan's team won't be calling!

He looked like he's actually listening to his corner again. The change in trainer has really paid off.

I respect fighters that go through hardships like he has.

I don't think he did change trainers. I think Gamboa disagreed with the trainer change.

Really? I thought Cuellar took over full time? I'll have to wait for it on five.
