DG to clean up Boxing.

I propose the following:
NO HOLDING ALLOWED!!!
It works in K1 and I think they need to introduce this on Boxing as much as possible.
Maybe they can allow 3 clinches per round and after that - take POINTS off.
Any other suggestions?

I agree. Holding in boxing ruins the fight. But fighting on the inside must stay.

How do you propose enacting this suggestion as law?
Or is that just a stupid question '
Dead
Gormless'

I think referees need to be more proactive in warning fighters for holding. If you're going to lose points, you'll stop holding.

So long as overkeen refs don't stop fighters from working on the inside. Also tying up a fighter on the inside is a skill like it or not.
I say boxing is fine and if you don't like it then watch something else
and there is something to be said for fat chick, like I car accident I know it's wrong to stare but I can't help it

Hello Carlos Wignorant!
I say if a fighter is hurt then he can hold, but NOT for the sake of it! The ref has to sort it out and deduct points for unnecessary holding. PBF does not hold, maybe they need to show the foighters how to slip and counter more.
As for the person who said I should watch something else - After Wlads last two fights I wish I did!
Heavyweight Boxing is mostly holding these days.

Hatton holds like a mofo. His whole career (at the top level) is fashioned on holding in fact.

But holding is part of the sport - in the olden days 'prizefighting' was a mixture of boxing and wrestling
anyway.
Here is a good example of a fighter who 'held and countered'

Niccolino Locche - and he was
brilliant to watch!

Not a bad shout, watch the Ward Augustus fight for a perfect example of this. Although potentially makes boxing much more dangerous.
And Hatton would be fucked.

You can't prove he would!
Boxing needs to evolve and the restriction on holding would make it more fluid!

Too much holding does spoil fights, thats a fact. I am in favour of refs warning to deduct points for exessive holding. Cuts are often caused by heads clashing when fighters hold.

Exactly!
Cut out the wrestling and we might actually see some puncges thrown.
When was the last time someone landed a thudding jab that made you say WOW?
Riddick Bowe had an amazing Jab!
Fighters today are all crash bang wallop - or HOLD HOLD HOLD!

I would think there would be many points being deducted at the start as it is a natural instinct to grab if you are hurt. It would also radically change the sport

I did say it was ok to grab if hurt, but all this holding for holdings sake is rubbish.
The sport is serving up some serious snoozefests so this is needed.
Stop holding and learn to slip and counter.

Certainly Ruiz style clinching needs to be punished, most of his career has been jab-clinch, jab-clinch, right lead-clinch......That's not holding because he's hurt it's holding for the sake of it. If one arm is free you're allowed to punch-there's your inside fighting, refs need only call a break if there's holding of the head or when both arms are pinned. There is a middle ground but these days they let them clinch ad nauseum and don't differentiate between what's legal and what's not.

Hence the rubbish we watch now!

Dean Francis is an excellent example of a fighter who can hold, properly. He can smother an opponent, hold briefly, and then push off the opponent. To get a bit of space/punching room. Showing he can control the ring space, which is very good to watch.
Fighters like Alexander Povetkin have a great feel for fighting up close. Povetkin is good at getting his hands free, finding a bit of room for a short punch. Yuriorkis Gamboa is also very lively up close, asnother fighter who's excellent at punching his way out of clinches.
Perhaps we need fighters to have measures against being held, if they ever end up in a situation.

Nicole Loche, the man Mayweather stole his style from, watch Loches defensive manouvers and you can see hes got all of the tricks of Floyd Jr pretty much
Oh DG you'd be disqualifying the following:
Muhammed Ali - in most of his 70s fights
Jack Johnson - basically John Ruiz with a bit more skill
Jeffries - pretty much a wrestler
Actually most tall fighters clinch on the inside to take away the smaller opponents gravitational in fighting advantage

theres a flipside to the argument also imo, takes two to tango in a grapple, watch say Ruiz/Rahman and you can see Rock initiate and accept just as many clinches as Ruiz but JR will get all the blame. If you can counter the grappling, it won't be an issue, say Ruiz/Toney, when Johnny went for it Toney took a half step back and would shoot the uppercut, grappling wasn't an issue in that fight, Toney turned it to his advantage.
none of that ramble probably makes any sense, but its nearly 5pm and I have no brain power left so I dont care.
