Lacy Retires - good news for Froch

After barely beating Mendoza last Wednesday, Jeff Lacy has retired from boxing.
There will be no Taylor v Lacy. Who can Taylor fight now, other than Froch?
How solid is Froch vs Pascal for the vacant WBC belt?

Lacy seems to be staying quiet regarding his retirement.
"Dirty business" ????
Had high hopes for Lacy. His career has fallen apart in the last 2 years.

He believed his own hype, he was so confident going into his fight with Calzaghe that he was going to win. That humiliating loss to JC has destroyed Lacys confidence, with his recent injury problems as well he is ruined as a top level fighter. I think it's a sensible decision for Lacy to take and good luck to him for what he plans for the future.

Sounds like a negiotiating ploy to me. Lacy has prob been offered short money for Taylor and he wants a retirement pay off

I think Calazage ruined Lacy I was shocked at how many flush shots Lacy was allowed to take, his corner should have thrown the towel in but hes damaged goods now, that was a horrible beating, Lacy really is the 168lbs answer to Gatti and needs managing accordingly if hes to stick around

Dont you think that is a little far fetched. The Calzaghe fight is the only bout that Lacy took any real punishment.

Dont you think that is a little far fetched. The Calzaghe fight is the only bout that Lacy took any real punishment.
Yeah but it was such a bad beating it def damaged him permanently

Anyway, how can things not get happening for Froch now?
Chuffed that Taylor's fight has fallen through. DiBella was looking to make easy money with a promised TV date. Now he has to put his man in a risky fight, vs Froch; or even better, wait out the Frch-Pascal winner.

Lacy was a one dimensional pug who was merely exposed by Calzaghe, I wouldnt start believeing that Joe damaged a really good fighter, just cos the Americans were taken in doesnt mean he was any cop

Even if he was a one dimensianal pug who got exposed by JC, he still had a bad beating, and beatings like that damage you permanently

Have to agree, I think Michael Spinks said it, they are the beatings that hurt you!! Though im not sure there is any evidence of serious damage, more like a bully being exposed and everyone working out the blueprint on how to get to him.
I do hope that is the case

I hope Mick Hennessy tells dibella to get stuffed personally.
He should fight Pascal and then call the shots as champion as he will get 60% of the purse instead of half or (more likely) a third.

He is ahead yes.... but Froch is ahead of taylor.
The WBC arent stupid and have seen the story unfold so far.

It was just a case of Lacy spitting the dummy. He's upset at Goldenboy for accepting half a million dollars for the fight on his behalf.
According to Lacy Taylor needs Lacy more than vice versa. I know

From what people who were around Lacy were saying it was quite the opposite....come the week of the fight he froze and his confidence deserted him completely

Well, Froch is the WBC #1, Pascal is being lined up (definitely a top 20 fighter), and Taylor no longer has the Lacy payday. Taylor can't go for the WBO title, with Calzaghe keeping it, so there's a better chance of Froch v Taylor happening sometime for the WBC.
I wish Froch had beaten a top 10 super middle. I was really looking forward to the Inkin fight. That fight would have been a nice bridge up to world class.
At least, does anyone agree that things look better for Froch than last they did Tuesday? Cheer up everyone.

Good insight Ant.
I think he's woeful and ponderous. I heard he had a great jab as an amateur, but I also heard he got stopped by Brian Magee as an Amateur.
It's strange, but the other night i found myself watching Nuts TV and Calzaghe vs Salem was on and I thought how Salem had given Joe far more trouble than Lacy ever had.
It just goes to show, how a good promoter can steer your credibility to unbelievable heights.

I think it was Bob Shannon's gym they were using before the Calzaghe fight and Shannon came on SKY saying there was only going to be one winner and that Lacy was lookign nervous and tense all week.

Jim Wilkes, Jeff Lacy's attorney and adviser, has confirmed to St. Peterburg Times boxing writer John Cotey that Lacy will return to the ring against Jermain Taylor on November 15. "I'm telling you, as Jeff's attorney, a deal has been reached," Wilkes said. "It took a lot of work, a lot of effort, a lot of discussion, but we got it done."
