Anyone have any thoughts on the very underrated irish boxer Noel Magee.
He was a Commonwealth light heavyweight champion in the 90's and fought for the British and European titles.

Yes good boxer, was underated... thought he could have stuck around a little longer. Was not potentially world championship Material - which I think Eamonn was... but a good fighter nevertheless.

The other brother Terry was decent too if i remember.

Noel and Terry were hardworking boxers who couldn't break an egg; Eamonn was lazy but could really whack.

I did the wikipedia pages for all three brothers (heres Noels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Magee) - to be honest I didnt really see many of his fights but did see Darren Corbett blowing him away in what seemed a relatively bad tempered afair

To say Noel couldn't break eggs is definetly harsh. He had 12 KO's in 27 wins, 4 were in the 1st round and his two biggest wins against Tony Wilson (british champion) and Garry Delaney (Commonwealth champion) were both stoppage wins. He also floored 8 other fighters on his way to points wins, so to say he couldnt break eggs on the basis of seeing him lose to darren corbett when he was making a comeback after 18 months at a weight he had never boxed before is very harsh.

i liked magee fair play to him he dont it the hard way diddnt he but i dont think eastwood done him any favours

you are right eastwood did him no favours. He did get him 4 title shots but they were all against undefeated fighters in their back yard and two of those boxers (tiozzo and michalczsweski) went on to win 7 world title belts between them. I also think it was tough on magee to be asked to defend his commonwealth title which he had worked so hard to get again away from home against the Welsh IT boy Piper. That was always going to be a 50/50 fight and i think he deserved an easier first defence in front of his home crowd
