Well, he got his wish against Patterson.

p.s. Checked on Hurricane and he died in '82. He shined shoes and drove taxis after boxing ended.

Another Patterson opponent from that era, Roy "Cut N' Shoot" Harris had a much better life after boxing. He was county clerk for 28 years and started the practice of law in 1972.

Jackson was a straightforward, somewhat amateurish swarmer. More of a crowd pleasing attraction than a good quality contender. One of his trademarks is that he used to throw "double uppercuts" (ie: throwing uppercuts with both hands at the same time).

He broke into the top rankings with two wins over Ezzard Charles (who was well into his decline), and that's basically his claim to fame. He made Patterson struggle in their first fight as I remember, not too long before Patterson became champ. But after Patterson bludgeoned him in their rematch, Jackson was finished.

My buddy, Mark Orman, fought Solomon McTier twice when he was 28 and McTier was 46...McTier destroyed him...My buddy didn't belong in the ring with him...

All I know about McTier is he was a good buddy of Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) and was in his corner for the Miteff and Patterson fights...
