David Dolan Cruiserweight

I found it really interesting to see Dolan fighting down at cruiser. How far can the Prize Fighter runner up go, down at cruiserweight? He's a talented, well schooled fighter of amateur pedigree. Bit small for a heavy - he turned pro not far above 200-pounds - but can he make an impact at 200? He looked decent knocking out that Sobral guy recently.

If things work out for Dolan, you'd think there would be some decent money fights out there for him. He's definitely well schooled, has fast hands, probably hits hard as a cruiser. Maybe has a vulnerable chin, but had to trade more than normal, in Prize Fighter, due to the format.

How far can he go at cruiserweight?

Could big success at cruiser, propel him into some kind of heavyweight fight of worth?

Could Dolan vs Haye be the McCroroy-Lennox of our time? (Looking a bit far ahead, admittedly, when there are pitfalls for both men).

I haven't seen his fight at Cruiserweight, but I was very impressed with him in Prizefighter. He was easily a class above the other boxers, but definitely too small for Rogan. I don't want to ever see him at Heavyweight again. I think he should stick to Cruiser.

As to how far he can go, I have no idea yet. He's definitely talented though.

He has sound boxing skills and was a class amateur, so he could go far at cruiserweight
aslong as he tightens his defence up as thats a major weakness, he gets a bit cocky i guess.
He definatley has the skills to go to british level and perhaps european, but i dont see any further
than that at cruiserweight.

I was sceptical about his chances as a heavyweight, but I thgink he can do well at cruiser.

Will he be weakened in a title fight when he can go no higher than 200-pounds? Will it affect his stamina in a hard fight? What are Matchroom's plans for him?

He only needed to lose just over a stone to make cruiser, and he didn't look like he had really low body fat in the first place. He should be able to make it with relative ease.

Cool. How long will it take him to win a British title - any thoughts?

No idea yet. Who's going to win between Robert Norton and Mickey Steeds?

Not sure. Is that Matchroom as well?

Nice one. Dolan can surely work toward fighting the winner. And see from there what he is capable of.

i thought he was great inprizefighter..got out muscled by big rogan

but he had a nice range of classy punches

no reason why he cant progress to one of the wbo'y-type titles...well good enough for brit and euro honours....in a year or so

and no reason whatsoever why he cant move to heavyweight in few years

hes good

Dolan is excellent, but just not a h/w
I can't see him beating Macca at cruiser, but he is def good enough for Brit and Commonwealth honours and to challenge for the Euro belt

Rematch with Rogan, over 12 rds, would be a very winnable heavyweight fight.

Anyway, a fight with Big Mac could be a good event in a few years.

It seems that if a guy was going to have significant success post Prize Fighter, that it would be Dolan.

Oh yes, Dolan can easily make crusierweight - his trainer said as much in his interview afterwards where he told us that David "didn't even have to change his diet too much, just more cardio work" when he fought in his last fight. I imagine he will go relatively far.

Yeah, that makes sense to me. He doesn't even look like a big Cruiser, so I do hope he stays there.

He won Commonwealth gold at 14'4

I wasn't impressed by Dolan's Cruiserweight debut tbh, with the way things are he can probably beat Norton or Steeds to win the British title but I wouldn't be convinced beyond that. Commonwealth champion Troy Ross is meant to be pretty decent and I don't see Dolan making it at European level unless he significantly improves.

It was at Super Heavy wasnt it? David Haye was the representative at 91 kg.

You are right, he won the ABA's at 14'4 but moved up as he wouldn't have got the trip because of Haye.
He always fought at heavy rather than super heavy in the amateurs

His speed definitely looked less pronounced at cruiserweight, compared to heavy. But I thought he picked his shots well and seemed to show some good power.

Yeah, only 11 fights. Looks like he's getting more profile now, maybe a bit of a career kickstart, as the career did seem to be moving slowly.

its shows how much respect u get for stepping up like he did in prizefighter ...he could have compiled a crappy 20-0 record against fat latvians.

goes to show that its not about the (o) its about balls

Yep. It's what we (the boxing fans) want and we will give credit for it. Rogan and Dolan have received loads more exposure and respect than they would have without the Prizefighter tourney.

With him lacking pro experience, it must have been good experience fighting 3 heavyweights on one night.

Cracking fight vs Rogan, as well. I'd love to see them go at it again, maybe for a British heavyweight title or something.
