I notice both boxrec and frankwarrentv have taken off Tyson Fury of their schedules to box at the MEN arena on September 6. Does that mean that Fury is now staying amateur for the Olympics in 2012. I also notice that George Groves may be staying amateur as well, perhaps the lure of London 2012 is greater then turning professional.

Interesting....I read that the top amateurs in the International set up can get £60 K of funding (tax-free!) plus a host of other benefits and top training facilities.

That's the equivalent of £100K taxed..plus if they do well in London 2012 they will be a huge commodity.

Didn't he have a couple of fights for Ireland though after England picked Price for the qualifiers?

That would rule him out.

Always said he should have stayed amateur and concentrated on 2012. He would have been England number 1 after this Summer, got his funding and the chance to fight the best Amateurs in the World.

no he was training in Ireland but failed to produce the necessary birth certs on the day before the nationals which would have allowed him to compete

Just checked and he did fight twice for Ireland, against the USA and Poland.
His eligibility came into question when he entered the Irish Championships and after checks were made, it was determined he could not compete.
