VINCENT VUMA (Holder, South Africa) v RYAN RHODES

The World Boxing Council International Committee, via its Chairman Mauro Betti, has called for purse bids to be submitted to the WBC Offices in Mexico City for opening on Friday, 29th August 2008 at 12.00. midday (Mexico time).

Looks like an interesting fight for Rhodes. If he wins I hope he hangs onto the British title as well.

well we might get to see this one in November on the Haye bill.
Good match though Vuma showed some nice moves against Thompson, but also looked a bit vunerable as well. He's more boxer than puncher.

i think vuma is a good, clever boxer think mark did brilliant considering it was only his 11th fight or something and was going up a division last min, vuma seem to take a good shot too luckily for him the body shot was at the end of the round which he was dropped wit. Looks like a good match up lookin forward too this

According to 26, Ryan is fighting in lateish September in Sheffield so I'd take that one as read.

I thought the Haye fight was mid November, probably a bit early for another fighter after?

Rhodes heads the bill on 20-09-08 at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Sheffield, in defence of his British Title.
The opponent is not yet confirmed.
For the WBC International title, the purse bids are due by 29-08-08.
It is premature to talk about when and where for the Vuma fight because that is dependant upon who wins the purse bids.
However, the contest will definitely take place.
If Rhodes prevails in both contests this will impact considerably upon his World ranking, particularly with the WBC.
Obvoiusly it would be excellent if the Vuma fight was on the undercard of the Haye bill in November.

cheers for that 'twenty six', hope the Vuma fight does come off, be interesting to see how Hayemaker gets on in the purse bids, will the money follow the the big words spoken already.

It's also a division Ryan could do well in at world level. Is the WBC indicator one for Haye as well perhaps?

There is no doubt whatsoever that the Vuma fight will happen.
Both sides want it.
It's just a case of purse bids then when and where.
I would expect there to be interest from a few Promotors and the result will be intriguing.

Couple of other things to mention that are relevent.
The contest must take place within 90 days of agreement being reached.
In addition, if private agreement is reached before 29-08-08 then the purse bids are cancelled.

Since when were WBC INTERNATIONAL title fights subject to mandatories and purse bids??

Vuma is class, good power........would be a tough night for Rhodes that. I as at ringsie for the Thompson fight and it was a bruiser. Great battle that was.

The 'International' titles were quite a favourite over here for a while, but with the emergence of the WBU titles , they seem to have been dropped a bit by the main promoters.

The WBC International titles do help in getting world title shots , as the 'World Champion' can make a voluntary defence against the holder of the International title.

True, but I wasn't aware you had purse bids etc, but then you never know with the WBC.

Based on his showing against Woolcombe I think Rhodes takes this comfortably - no disrespect to young Thompson but Ryan's on a different level in terms of boxing ability.

I wonder if the Board/TV will OK a fight with Coyle or other names I've heard bandied about : Patrick Maxwell and Steve Conway.
The Bradley Pryce fight that Rhodes turned down was far more attractive.

It wasn't a point, it was a question. As I understand it, the WBC inter belts are to be contested by boxers ranked 11-30 on an "as and when" basis, i.e. no mandatories. This is the first I've ever heard of purse bids for this title. If there were mandatories, and they were enforced, why are vacant inter fights NEVER between the #11 and #12 guys?

Coyle is by far the most interesting fight for Rhodes to take out of that lot.

When did he turn down a fight with Pryce?

Good fight for Rhodes but i was looking forward to his proposed clash with Anthony Small most of all.

Then tell him to get his finger out of his arse and put huimself forward through his advisers for a challenge to the British LM title.
No problem at the Sheffield end.
