It's a really quiet week again. August hasn't had much action yet. Is Valuev vs Ruiz the biggest fight of August?

August is traditionally the closed season for pro boxing so surprised there are as many fights as that to be honest!

Unbeaten British-based Israeli Roman Greenberg finally steps up against Atlanta's Cedric Boswell in Atlanta later this month (August 29).
The stylish 26-year-old Greenberg, who lives in north London, has won all 27 of his fights since turning pro as a teenager in November 2001 but drawn criticism for the standard of his opposition and oft-cautious approach.
No complaints about this one, even though Boswell has built up an almost identical 27-1 record on a similar diet of cannon fodder, although his opponents tend to get blown away. The Sonny Liston lookalike has 21 early wins.
Still, Boswell remains something of a question mark himself. When he stepped up in 2003 against New Yorker Jameel McCline, he fought well in the early rounds before running out of steam and being stopped in the last. It must have proved a traumatic experience: Boswell didn't fight again for three years and is now a creaking 39 and on a winning run of six against the type of opponents who Greenberg has mostly already licked. The word 'pitiful' springs to mind.
BOTH men, clearly, have something to prove going into this one, a 12-rounder. Perhaps home advantage for Boswell swings it his way.



An interesting match in the States on August 22 pairs Contender men Pete Manfredo Jnr and Donnie McCrary in a 12-rounder.
Manfredo finished runner-up in the original Contender series back in 2005, losing to current WBC light-middleweight champion Sergio Mora in the final at the legendary Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas (points). There were no complaints, but when the two met again in Los Angeles a short while later and Mora got the nod once more, this time it was hotly disputed.
Frankly, Manfredo was robbed in Mora's home city.
Manfredo continued to show improvement as he belted Scott Pemberton and Joe Spina in three rounds apiece but an audacious crack at WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe in Cardiff in April 2007 ended in three rounds the other way. Manfredo was the victim of an 'iffy' stoppage from Birmingham referee Terry O'Connor, although Calzaghe was punching in those bunches of his and looked on the way to an emphatic victory anyway.
"The Pride Of Providence", as Manfredo is hailed back home, soon got back to winning ways
and then gave fellow Calzaghe victim "Joltin'" Jeff Lacy a hard 10-rounder on the Mayweather-Hatton undercard in Las Vegas last December, busting up the former IBF super-middleweight champion a bit before dropping a close unanimous decision. He's won two out of two since, both early. Altogether the 27-year-old Manfredo is 30-5 (15). Only Calzaghe has stopped him.
McCrary engaged in the third series of Contender late last year and had the misfortune to run into Sakio "Scorpion" Bika in his first fight of the series and was eliminated in a thriller - a real war - by the Aussie strongman on a five-round decision. Bika, of course, went on to win the event (and $750,000). At 25 McCrary is a solid, improving fighter with a decent dig. The man they call "The Savage" blasted Sacramento's much-fancied Eric Regan in the first round in Sacramento last year to secure his place on Contender and floored world class Oklahoman Allan "Sweetness" Green in Oklahoma back in 2006, before Green, unbeaten in 19 going in, came back to win in six rounds.
McCrary was a late substitute for Anthony Bonsante that night.
So McCrary, 24-7-2 (13) and from the boxing backwoods of Missouri, is no pushover. Since losing to Bika last October, he dropped a desperately close decision to Portland's slippery David Banks a month later in Boston and outscored Terrance Smith over six rounds in Missouri in May. The Banks result is quite pointed, as close as it was. Banks had given Manfredo a hard fight just five months earlier - but Manfredo camer though on a 10-round decision in Connecticut. It is enough to separate the two. Gutsy Manfredo grinds out victory.

Martinez's opponent was changed to a guy with no wins and 6 losses. No suprises that it was a 1st round KO by Martinez.

Joel Julio and Joe Greene both appeared to win with ease.

Darren Barker won a unanimous decision by a 4 point margin. Afolabi looks to have had a relatively easy fight. Still awaiting the Brunson result.

Edit: Apparently Brunson got a draw!
