Finished mate. He lost. Wasn't a great performance, but Gu was on his bike for the last 1.5 rounds and there were some iffy decisions on points for Gu and against Joe.
Gutted.
Final score was 17-7 I think.

There were some dodgy points not scored, but the Chinaman won the fight anyway. Murray was on the retreat for the whole fight and his style is not for international boxing at all.

Lol @ the partizan commentary from Richie Woodhall.

I don't know about that, he won a bronze at the AIBAs didn't he?

Made me chuckle as well. I'm quite fond of biased commentary though. Moorehouse was brilliant on the swimming yesterday when we won gold. I thought he was going to climax in the last ten metres.

Yep, and beat Gu 14-11 last time they met.

Dunno then, the nerves must have got to him.

...or the weight is too much for him. Seemed full of beans, though. I was sure he'd get at least silver.

I think being English sometimes masks what's really happening.

Yeah, as I said in my report, I think Gu did enough to win. But the margin was silly. Was a couple of points in it, I'd say. And the standing count after being forearmed topped it off.
As for Woodhall, he was right in the main. I love to see a bit of partisan commentary.
John Motson used to disgust me with his love of the Germans when they were playing England.

cos murray was a medal hope.

Lol at the New Cuba remark.
The Cubans don't get all the funding and supplements the GB team get, they just work hard.

The Chinese lad just said re Murray "He's strong and I think he's better than me."

..and it's the second most participated sport in the country behind Baseball. At least the GB fighters don't have to sell their medal for a birthday party for their daughter.

Especially against the French!
I've met Moore at Twickers and he was giving my friend some jip for wearing an Ireland shirt.
As for Murray, he was unlucky not have about six or seven punches counted. That said, I thought he was second-best on this occasion.

A couple of the Chinese boxer's points should not had been given and about five of Murray's clean shots did not score. Loosing 15-12 is a lot better than 17-7. But I thought the first three rounds were horrible to watch - the china man has a horrible style. If Murray had been more aggressive in the early rounds he may have won but it was a good learning experience - I hope he hangs around in the amateurs for a bit.

Two issues stood out for me.
The points margin did not relflect the closeness of the bout and the Chinese boxer made little attempt to make a fight of things to the point were points should be deducted (or added in this case).
As for Murray "retreating the whole fight", Gray-Fox, I must have been watching a completing different fight. Joe forced the action for most of the fight, right from the first bell. A bronze in the world championships suggests he can cut it at international level too.
