Hey guys
I have really only a very basic knowledge on former top rated
challenger Spencer. I have seen his loss to Quarry, but have
not had a chance to see much else on him.
Have any of you gents met him, memories and on...
thanks in advance.
Here are some articles I have found...in any case.

It seems from what I have uncovered he is a late 60s prototype
for the talent rich but drug troubled 1980s alphabet heavies..

He fought Leotis Martin over here in the late 60's and it was reputed as being one of the greatest fights ever seen in a British ring, unfortunately there is no film of it that I know of.

what happened to the film of such reasonably high profile
fights ?
Its not like filming fights was a new thing by that stage.
Its pretty sad its not being able to ever see such films.

It was all BBC in those days, if there wasn't some sort of British interest, or a high profile international fight then they didn't bother sadly. When ITV got interested in boxing then a lot more was available.

Interesting article.
Spencer was basically a one-hit wonder as far as I'm concerned. He wasn't too well known until he upset Terrell in the opening round of the WBA tourney, after which he became a big prospect. Then he was himself upset by Quarry and faded away as quickly as he came. In retrospect, it's laughable how quickly Ring Magazine jumped on his nuts.

But then, Ring has a history of touting fighters right before they get clouted.
After toppling Spencer, Quarry quickly took his place as the hottest prospect in the heavyweight division.

Spencer was a guy who did everything pretty well, but nothing exceptional.
After the very tough loss to Quarry, it was a very stupid decision to throw him in with Martin. However, he flushed his own career away with his hard partying ways.
