There has been criticism on here over the British teams performance.
I was of the opinion that the games were successful purely to have 8 rather than 1 qualify.
Now we are going to get 3 medals, possibly 3 golds ! I think that it has been a fantastic performance by the British boys, well done

I think it needs to be put into perspective against other sports. For the amount of money spent (£5m for a total of 8 entrants, one of which didn't even throw a punch in anger), it's not been great compared to other sports like swimming and cycling. However, I hope that UK Sport have set the foundations for future Games, especially as the UK Sport funding is supposed to double for 2012.
All, except one, of the British team that competed tried their hardest (the Bradley Saunders comments where a bit of a piss take).
If we don't get a silver from one of the 3 left, it will be a shame.

I can't understand the criticsm that our Olympic boxers got on here considering we've gone from 1 boxer to 8.
However somebody needs some criticsm over the Frankie Gavin debacle, why wasn't he entered at the higher weight? why were they so confident that he wasn't going to grow?

He couldn't have gone to a higher weight because Saunders already was.

The money spent is not purely on those boys though, it is on the infrastructure of the sport, we won't see all the benefits immediately.
However it is pleasing to see immediate success in the competition, and such infrastucture should surely benefit out professiona game too

I didn't mean just before the Olympics, I was referring to when they were qualifying for the Olympics 6 to 9 months ago. He should have been looking at qualifying at the higher weight if there was any doubt that he wouldn't be able to make the weight, he was the star of the team and our best chance at gold.

I think thats where the slight dissapointment has cme from. The alds we thoguht would get golds and silvers went early, yet three relative underdogs are now one fight from the final...

Well done to Degale – cracking performance.
I have always dismissed ‘Chunky’ as a bit of a show pony without the substance to back it up – he is proving me wrong in style.
It would be great to see him bring home gold – I don’t think very many gave him a serious chance of getting this far before the start of the games..
Hitman, it would seem your faith in the lad is well placed (well, you have to get something right every once in a while I suppose!)
