PRESS RELEASE

SEARCHING FOR A STAR

BRITAIN’S leading promoter Frank Maloney returns to grassroots level by staging at non-televised show at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Saturday September 13.

Maloney will run a series of similar promotions over the next 12 months all over Britain alongside his televised dates with the ultimate aim of discovering boxing’s next superstar.

Next month’s show at the home of British boxing will be headlined by Belfast’s answer to Frank Bruno, Scott Belshaw (9-1).

The heavyweight hopeful avenged his only defeat last month when he easily out pointed tough Russian Daniel Peret.

Belshaw, 23, recently relocated to South-East London and has greatly impressed new trainer Brian Lawrence.

Also on the bill is exciting heavyweight debutant Tom Dallas, a former ABA super-heavyweight finalist hailing from Kent.

Other upcoming hopefuls on Maloney’s show include Hertfordshire’s Liam Shinkwin and lightweight Ben Murphy (5-1) who upset previously undefeated Gary Buckland in June.

Fighting barber Shinkwin is from the famous fighting family who thrilled fans in the eighties.

The lightweight will be roared on a large army of fans and has sold 400 tickets for his professional debut.

Tickets for this top night of boxing can be obtained from www.frankmaloney.com or by calling 0871 226 1508.

Going up on frankmaloney.com some time today is an interveiw with Former heavyweight champion of the world John Ruiz before his title challenge this weekend.

I like the idea, and its good to see FM getting the grass-roots, small hall stuff going.

But Scot Belshaw as the next Frank Bruno? Cripes, he'll need to come on leaps and bounds from his last outing - I thought he was terrible.

Ponderous, threw arm punches and punched in singles all night. Never put anything together and looked to have fragile confidence too.

Belshaw does need alot of work, but lets see if Brian Lawrence can bring about some improvement, its seems to me that he's being given unneeded pressure by his team who keep hypeing him up all the time.

watch out for Ben Murphy he is a short, stocky very muscular banger who looks to have quite heavy hands. i doubt he will make it all the way to a british title- i can see him getting outboxed at the top level- but will be inviolved in good fights along the way, with a style for which the phrase 'all-action' could have been coined.

Good luck to Ben Murphy as I was impressed with him in his fight against Buckland.

FTM, Is Matt Tew on the card? If not, when does he get his debut?

He has somehow managed to convince Cammarelle to go pro?

Seriously, I expect Dallas to go further than Belshaw if thats what you mean.

As long as it's not some over-sized giant masquerading as a fighter I will be happy!
The division needs all the young(and old) blood it can get.

I don't know how exclusive Frank your contract is but you should try and get Nuts tv show a delay/live showing of this bill. I think they would be interested in the bill and i think TV is always good for publicity for your fighters.

Saying that though, didn't Frank once have a over-sized giant called Valuev on his books?
He's not turned out to badly after all.

The best Heavyweight prospect is David Haye, imo.
