Isnt there a ruling stating you cannot manage and promote one (as in the same) fighter? Am I right? as someone has just told me you can do both for one fighter?

Can´t be. Tommy Gilmour manages and promotes a stable of boxers.

I always thought they had a seperate managment structure. Like the trainer acting as manager or something along the way. Ah well... every days a school day and all that.

You can her BUT in the US it has been stopped.

It's considered a conflict, as in your manager must fight for you to get the best possible purse from the promoter. How does he do that if HE IS the promoter?

It's not a problem mate.
You can even have Co Managers, with one being the Promotor !
You can even have a Trainer / Manager role.
Can't think of one that ticks all three boxes - I suppose the nearest is Dean Powell.
Trainer, Manager, and Matchmaker, working for Promotor.

The Don used to have his son Carl 'manage' his fighters.

Yeah, like Wazza in the first person singular as the Manager, but SN as the Promotor.

The Board didn't carry on as usual, no............. they took advice from none other than Mickey Duffs counsel, who advised that the rules should be ammended to state that a boxer be given the right to negotiate for himself. As a result of this advice a new clause was added to the standard boxer manager contract. (source - Twenty & out. Mickey Duff, a life in boxing)

A form 36a was added to the standard BBBofC boxer / manager contract, which set out the boxers right to know the extent of his managers involvement in the promotion of a contest he was to partake in, and to negotiate for himself. Believe it or not, it was Mickeys failure to serve this notice on Joe Calzaghe, that led to Joe being released from his contract with Mickey.

Im pretty certain of this,when this Manager Promoter Deal first was talked about by the Board the one who tried to stop it was Micky Duff. It was He who used it to His advantage more than most. Funny old Game.

What do you mean manager / promoter deal mate?.......Certainly it's true that with the profit sharing agreement between Duff, Lawless, Astair and Barrett, it could be argued there was a definite advantage to all four parties, including Duff.I think the problem came about because the fighters claimed to have no knowledge of such an agreement.
