CAMPBELL v GUZMAN live on Setanta

Unification @ 135 - 13th Sep and a helluvafight
Not many would fancy their chances taking on either of these two, and it's a great example of two fighters willing to take on ANYONE, none of the ducking and sidestepping we see so often these days.
Tough fight to call, I'll go Guzman on points.

Nate Campbell defends his WBA, WBO & IBF lightweight titles against unbeaten Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic in Biloxi, Mississippi, on September 13.
Guzman, 28-0, with 17 knockouts, has already held world titles at super-bantamweight and super-featherweight, relinquishing both due to weight problems. Nicknamed "Little Tyson", he represents a formidable opponent for the aging, 36-year-old Campbell, who won the titles last March with an upset points win over Mexican-American Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz in Mexico. It was a split decision but Campbell busted up Diaz and dominated the later rounds. He was a worthy, sparkling, sensational winner.
Trouble is, Campbell has proved to be an inconsistent fighter at 32-5-1 (25) and you wonder if he can produce two big displays in a row. The classy, stiff-hitting Floridian will undoubtedly make life difficult for the brash, good-moving, quick-punching Guzman, but at the end of it all, one does fancy Guzman to emerge as the new champion.

I like these fight but if I'm being honest I'm a little peeed off with Setanta.
I think the big US cards should suppliment British action but the fact is that now SN have returned to SKY you can bet our Balls that Setanta won't show any SN cards.
What does that leave us with? Ryan Rhodes, Derry Mathews, Tony Dodson and the rest.
It's a bit hard for Setanta to call themselves the home of boxing now.

I'd rather see Campbell Guzman than 90% of british contests.

As a purist I agree BUT.........
To get the arm chair supporters watching again we need young British fighters for the fans to relate to.
Obviously they need exposure but they need to be in 'even-ish' (is that a word?) fights.
It's just hard to relate for a boxer from the other side of the world who we may just see bow once or twice a year and no profile inbetween.

Unfortunately it is cheaper for them to get US action than domestic. Plus they can have p4p stars whereas for a higher price you only get domestic ones.
I agree that it would be nicer, but with the alleged Sultana money troubles this is better than nowt.

The problem I have with Setanta now that - yes it does have some great fights from the USA, but they take place between 3-6am and I value my sleep.
They do show the repeats, but without ring entrances/in depth post fight analysis. I may as well just watch the fight on you tube for free.
For me to justify my continued subscription I want to see British (or even European fights) at a reasonable hour. I'm gonna give it til the end of the year if there's no further live stuff on during the evening, I'm cancelling.

True. The ring entrances build the anticipation, even in the re-run. But I can quite easily give Bunce's pre and post fight analysis a miss.
Setanta the 'Easyjet' of boxing coverage. Long may it continue.

Oh good god, are Campbell and Guzman the people that the self-styled "hardcore" going to latch onto as some sort of standard bearers of "good honest pro's who never duck anyone"
If you knew anything about Joan Guzman, you would know what thats so laughable

But Sky have Maloney and Sports Network contracted and they're the only guys with good young names.
Think of the money they would have had to pay for Khan, for one Khan fight they could spend it on several US bouts.
They've also got David Haye and Joe Calzaghe's next fights which is good for young fans and the deal with Haye will put on some good fights.
Haye is also backed by Goldenboy so he has the power to sign big names now after the olympics.

There's also a rumour that HBO have pissed away their Boxing budget early for the second year running.

Have you read the Thomas Hauser article on secondsout about the fall scheduling by HBO?
http://www.secondsout.com/Columns/index ... 8&cs=27341
Makes for interesting reading.
If Klitschko-Povetkin happens it will have to be Decembber 13th as there is no other available date, in which HBO can televise.

Sure did. HBO have a November 1st slot at the moment, unless Margarito takes it.

good point, but the timer on my video downstairs doesn't work - always failed to record whenever I programme it in and there's no timer option on the video upstairs so its not possible.
