There's a mistake in the article:

Rendall Munroe who defends his European super-bantamweight title for the second time and opponent Armenian Arsen Martirosian both came in under the limit of 9st 10lbs.

Should be 8st 10lbs.

At least the fights happening, I thought it was being called off altogether. Wonder if he's going to move up to 10 stone? or has he just had a shocking camp?

Hmmm. I only just noticed that Wolverhampton's Dean Harrison is fighting Scott Haywood for the English 140lbs title on this bill. this was originally- or at least 4 weeks or so ago- meant to be Wright- Haywood i thought.

should be all-action. both men have wins over Gary Reid as their best results

i've never seen Haywood what's he like, anyone?

Glyn is a mate, and what I was meaning is that I know, regardless of lifestyle issues etc, Glyn would be on the case, see it coming, and resolve it before it became an issue 9 times out of 10.
It's just not like him.
I've been around too many years not to know that the majority of responsibilty lies with the fighter alone.
One thing's for sure - I'd be giving Glyn a wide bearth for a while, till he's cooled off.

After speaking to him early this morning, I can confirm this is wise advice!

For obvious reasons I'm gonna keep out of the way, but am I correct in saying Glyn blames Fewkey 100% for this ?

Glyn is a grafter, He is qiuetly getting a teriffic stable together. The gym is Buzzing, all down to Hard work, Im gutted for Him, Johns Taking the Piss its time to grow up. He is a lightweight in more ways than one

All I'll say is John passed his final weight check no problem earlier this week. He's not a baby - he's 23 years old and 17-0.

I've followed John since his pro debut. He's a mate of mine. I'm gutted for him. In saying that, if he wins tonight I still think he's in pole position for a British title shot and he'll hopefully have learned a lesson.

I've followed Fewkey since the ams and believe me I never had him down as a fighter lacking in discipline.
Not only give Glyn a wide bearth, perhaps the New Inn as well.
If he comes back stronger mentally all well and good, but it's a strange thing to happen at this time in his career.

Well, at least the fight is still on, which is a good thing.I hope its just a case of lesson learned. I like John a lot.I remeber watching him beat my old flatmate, and friend, tony Montana (good wins to have as he is trciky as hell), and he is developed since then -a very good rounded fighter.

I was told by a prominent member of this gym that Fewkes was allegedly about 20lbs over when he was pulled out of the Murray fight with an upset stomach.
Khan's camp questioned if he could make the weight when Fewkes turned down 40k

I notice you are not as scathing at your mate John's lack of 'professionalism' as you were over Frankie Gavin's Ian!

Its easy to take a double standard I suppose where mates are concerned..

Gavin was paid money to fight. Fewkes hasn't been paid for the fight yet. Plus the funds Gavin received could've helped another fighter, and were from a (sort of) charity. Not a Promoter's pocket.

Buncey said on his show yesterday that he'd spoke to Frankie Gavin and Frankie said that he trained for over 5 hours straight to lose the final 2lb to make the wight, but even after the 5 hour session he'd only lost half a pound He'd just outgrown 61kg.

However growing is not a new phenomenon, so surely they should have played it cautiously considering he was our best boxer and entered him into the 64kg class in the qualifying tournies, but I suppose himdsight is a wonderful thing.

Where as Fewkesy weight making problems seem to be down to his lack of discipline, going by the reports that he was 20lb over the limit in the run up to the fight

The Gold Gavin secured at the Worlds last October (how many can say they have represented this country in Amatuer boxing and gained such an accolade?) went a good way to justifying the funding he received from Sport England etc over the last few years.

My point was the poor lad was villified by many on this board for what happened in Bejing.

When Fewkes comes in fat its a case of 'bl00dy hell I hope the silly ginger has learned his lesson..'

Its a good job Gethin is a warrior - he could have turned the job down and left alot of fans disappionted and out of pocket. OK Fewkes would have lost his purse but what about the travelling fans from Walsall and Shefield respectively? They would have been hung out to dry..
