cant find on boxrec but he was half decent in britain in the 80's

Yeah, he was a decent fighter, looked a bit unlucky against Henry Wharton in Leeds. I watched him fight as an amateur for England vs Poland in 1986 and he showed plenty of potential. Brendan Ingle renamed him Slugger O'Toole in the paid ranks.

As Harry Carpenter said during the closing stages of his commentary on O'Toole v Wharton (it was screened by BBC):

"If Wharton wins this fight it will go down in history with the loaves and the fishes" (or words to that effect - its been a longtime!)

I was a big Wharton fan and even I conceed Smith boxed his head off that night.

He was a great boxer... the Wharton fight was a terrible robbery... but just one of a few Castro suffered in his career... I think he was robbed against Mccracken too and afterwards quit the game because of it... under different managership and with a few breaks Castro was good enough to at least fight for a world title, if not actually win one...
