Briedis Prescott

Ok so i watched the fight (steam, no PPV here) and once again I am appalled by the way we cover sporting events in this country. Khan was annihilated, destroyed and clearly had no business being in the ring with a fighter like Prescott. Mr Prescott has travelled half way round the world to fight khan in his own backyard and took him out yet the pundits and commentators are far more bothered about talking about what khan should or shouldnt have done, where does he go from here. Hell I didn't even see an interview with Prescott, yet i saw interviews with Khan, Frank, Khan's dad, Khan's trainer and the guy who once fixed Amir's car. When Ricky Hatton was outclassed by Floyd Mayweather in Vegas, HBO still interviewed him, and he was the LOSER.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Oh and seriously, adverts on PPV???? that just aint right.

I wonder whether Prescott is another Kiko Martinez?? A Guy with a bit of power who cracked the chin of one of the Countries hot prospects...but in the end may not actually be that great???

We learned a lot about Amir but as with Martinez, I feel we have learned very little about Prescott, bar if you expose your chin he will hurt you

Yeah if I was Mick Hennessy Id be looking to offer some good money for Prescott to fight John Murray. Thats a fight that intrigues me. I think people have gone overboard a bit in that Im suddenly hearing that Khan would be beaten easily by Thaxton and Murray. I think thats unfair I think Khan would beat Thaxton, and with Murray it would be reasonably competitive.

As for Prescott I think like Khan we will see how good he is when someone takes his power and gives him some shots back too. Khan has been fighting guys who either fall over when he hits them, or go the distance but pose no threat. The acid test of any fighter who can punch when they face someone who takes their power and still manages to throw hard shots back.

I've wondered exactly the same thing myself.

He may not be great, but he's a hell of a lot better than Khan from where I'm sitting. I agree about the coverage though - why no interview with the main man ??

Larry Merchant would have been all over the Columbian had this took place in America. Just goes to show how biased the whole thing was. Carefully designed to make Khan a notch more marketable to extract another quid out of his fanbase in another couple of months.

"Khan defeats dangerous puncher" i imagine the headline to have already written before the fight took place. I'm not naive enough to think that this isn't a business, but i got the feeling that Warren wasn't particularly bothered by his defeat last night.

He must have sensed that no sooner had the title shot appeared, that he would have been sacked as promoter. There seemed to be a lot of involvement from all of Khan's family, aides and friends and maybe i'm wrong, but could feel a split forming at some point.

Anyone else feel that way ?

I sense that they will make a fight between Prescott and either Cook or more likely, Alex Arthur - and then they will pray that their man gets the win over the Columbian and then they will pitch Amir against him.

"Styles makes fights. I made a mistake, but after outpointing Alex Arthur, there is little point rematching Prescott as i beat Arthur who beat Prescott.."

Agree with you, James. If Amir boxes sensibly, he'd have no trouble with the Thaxton who fought Romanov. And everybody loves Murray, but his best win - vs Meager - is some way short of Khan's best wins (Earl and St Clair).

I'm looking forward to seeing what Warren does with Prescott. He seems disinterested in him, from the article on allegedly.tv, but that doesn't really mean anything.

I still think Khan would beat Thaxton. I'd definitely favour Murray over Khan now.

Didn't Thaxton lose to Earl? The same Earl that Khan dispatched in the first round?

Good observation there. Martinez was a no-hoper when put in with Richard Williams, but then....

Prescott looked hopeless against Abril(sp?).

He's crude and slow as hell. This is truly an embarassing loss for Khan.

I'm not sold on him yet - let's see how he does against a decent boxer with a decent chin.

Even with this win he's not a top 15 lightweight. He was on ESPN over in states
and he bearly won a SD against 8 rd fighter. He still an 'opponent'.

Yes I agree, the money Khan wanted was that of a world champion while still being a prospect. He was becomming unnafordable so now after the loss FW should be able to pay him sensible money. Cant see Khan liking that so maybe he will leave Warren to get the money he wants elsewhere. I think FW knew Khan was an accident waiting to happen but obviously didnt think Prescott was the man who could bring it about. What is he worth now to FW, a lot less I would have thought. I think it puts FW back in the driving seat.

Its ok to say Prescott is just an opponent. He starched Kahn in under a minute so what does that make Kahn. Overhyped and spoon fed. And it took a unknown south american to show the world exactly what Kahn is. :TU:
