Ok, im on a roll today, this is what happens when you are waiting to go to work. MEMO TO ME.........STOP THINKING.

You know we get British fighters who make their debut, win and win, then win a belt and so on, but, look at their records and there are only a few UK fighters in that mix.

To me, if i was a boxer I would want to prove im the best in my country by beeating the British champion.

I would start off fighting up the rankings until i got to where i would earn a British title shot.

What is wrong with that, why do such boxers choose to fight a African say that you know is going to lose, why not fight a UK fighter who has the same ability. You cannot say that the fighters are just not there.

Also, by doing this Uk fighters are earning money also, plus you are getting repect by beating opponants above you to get to the top.

Win the British title and move on to either Euro or World.

Ive never understood why we do not fight from our own country.

Khan has fought plenty of people from his own country.

if quality isnt here why not fight for the British title to win it easily at least you have the National belt.

Promoters like to pad up and coming prospects records, bringing a dodgy or washed up import in with a deceptively good record can look good on paper, rather than getting a torrid time from a far more proven, sturdy and/or younger British contender with perhaps a more modest record on paper.
A certain promoter tried this recently - but it backfired with disastrous consequences ;)

I think prospects should be brought up against other prospects on their way to title level but between those fights they should be given tests against foreign(more US, Mexican, Puerto Rican) journeymen instead of the British variety who collapse under the first sign of trouble.

Many wanted Khan to fight Thaxton. Khan finally agreed. Thaxton wanted more Money. SN said forget it.

A few years back there were tons of middle - light-middle fights to be made.
I probably can't even remember most of them:
Takaloo
Lockett
Alexander
Farnell (I put this in for fun)
Williams (secret)
Elcock

They never really squared off much though. From their point of view, there's no real point.
So many versions of the 'world' title, it's better to lost to a 'world' class fighter then someone who's maybe not even the best in their town.

Also, if their signed to different stables, there's the TV money and options issue.
If their in the same stable, the manager is shooting himself in the foot with one of his fighters. (bad business).

there should be more British fights, i would like to see Haye take on Skelton (top 20), and Hatton to shut Witter up once and for all would be great !
