Anyone know how he is doing?

I just watched his fight with Evander Holyfield. Fabulous fight!

The pre-fight was very touching with Dokes, now off drugs, interviewed with the amazing 92 year old Jewish guy (sorry, forget his name) who became like a father to Dokes.

In looking at this career record, I was sad to see that Dokes weighed 280 in his last fight vs 210 when he KO'd Michael Weaver.

Dokes is such a talented, fast guy. I too am curious as to know
how he is doing.

It is painful to watch his fights against Ruddock or Bowe.

He's safely behind bars.

Waste of talent. When Weaver held him to a draw in the rematch, it was like "What?"
I knew at that point Dokes was not living the life.

Still in prison (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.h ... A9669C8B63) and not behaving himself I read somewhere, he was in solitary for beating someone up.

Shame, waste of talent, he had very fast hands and good skills, bit of an arm puncher and not the quickest on his feet but in terms of ability as good as any of the alphabet boys of the 80's.

Rarely in a bad fight to be fair.

What did he get jailed for ?

Just read up on it ...beating his fiancee up.

Dokes had a lot of talent, but didn't have the power to really affect things.I was thinking he was out on parole.

I always wondered how Michael would've held up against a Cooney hook.

Cooney would of had to endured a tough fight first to start landing on Dokes jaw, by which point Cooney would have already lost via kayo so we wouldn't know.

Michael Dokes is the classic shoulda , coulda.
He was doing coke only a couple days prior to losing his title to Coetzee.He admited this.
Hes lucky he didnt wind up seriously injured.Through the eighties, Dokes and cocaine were mentioned in the same sentence often.
He had a lot of talent.Im sure at this point he knows he has no one to blame but himself.

Dokes had some of the fastest hands you'd ever see on a HW. On the flipside, the guy was a terminal arm puncher. He was never able to truly convert to a professional fighting style.

Agreed but those arm punches forced a massive amount of stoppages over a long career.

When a guy that big & strong is throwing arm punches, thats still gonna do damage!! Check out John L Gardner or the usually very durable Ossie Ocasio for starters.

The Gardner and Lynn Ball fights were probably Dokes' most impressive.He also had George Chaplin down, but they didn't count the knockdown.Him and Tillis would've been a nice fight.
