Prizefighter tonight !!!

Here we go

Prizefighter 1 was everything it was hyped up to be ...a rumble indeed.

Tonight's extravaganza in newcastle should be just as good.

theres many factors to consider here.....

firstly some of the rolly polly boys are not out of it by any means....its a short distance scrap... and morgan and bessy more than held their own last time out

however stamina and endurance is a vital aspect...it does become a bit wrestling and scrappy at times ..so brute force is vital as well

Burton is the fave but he may not have enough for my fave Dave Fergusson ...

reid can take sexton

will fergusson have to meet burton in the semi ????

the experience is with Fergusson and morgan

Who wants it more?

remember winner gets a shot at old Auds :box:

Swaby is fit, awkward and slippery. Not the perfect DNA to win this, but I have a feeling he's the dark horse of the draw beyond the obvious Ferguson selection.

Who looked fit and hungry on Setanta last night.

Jonny Nelson's take. Ridiculously talking up Dave Ingleby and Luke Simpkin! Shambles Nelson.

Johnny's guide to the Prizefighters
Sam Sexton (Norwich) 8-7(KO 2)1-0
JOHNNY SAYS: Sam is not a bad kid. He spars with a couple of lads at my gym already and from what I've seen he's not bad at all. I don't expect him to win, but he might surprise one or two.
v
Pele Reid (Birmingham) 26-19(KO 17)-5-2
JOHNNY SAYS: We all know what we're going to get with Pele - he'll be going in there to knock people out, or get knocked out. He believes he can win this and he is sure to entertain us one way or another.

Luke Simpkin (Derby) 42-10(KO 8)-29-3
JOHNNY SAYS: One of the frontrunners, in my opinion. He's one of the more experienced, he's won more than he's lost and he can box. He'll fancy his chances of not only out-boxing, but taking these guys out.
v
David Ferguson (Newcastle) 8-7(KO 2)-1-0
JOHNNY SAYS: David has been sparring with a 6ft 8in lad I know called Richard Hale and it has been entertaining to say the least. He's tough, he'll walk you down and you don't get an easy ride with David. Plus he'll have the crowd behind him.

Chris Burton (Darlington) 11(KO 6)-0-0
JOHNNY SAYS: Everybody seems to fancy the unbeaten fighters on a night like this and that's OK for a one-off - but what about three fights in a night? Burton is not a bad boxer, he's smart and knows his way round a ring. Should jump on the older guys.
v
David Ingleby (Morecambe) 27-5(KO 3)-21-1
JOHNNY SAYS: Another one of those who has got the pedigree to go and win it. If it went by the formbook I'd back David to make the final, but form doesn't count for much in Prizefighter. Still, he should do well.

Lee Swaby (Lincoln) 44-22(KO 11)-20-2
JOHNNY SAYS: Not a natural heavyweight having jumped up from cruiser. But Lee is a tricky customer, he's fit and he'll fancy this. He'll be thinking he can outfox and outbox these bigger guys. Should make the semis at least.
v
Darren Morgan (Swansea) 9-5(KO 3)-4-0
JOHNNY SAYS: The Welshman is very strong, very tough and very rough. Will make life uncomfortable for whoever he's facing and over three rounds, has got a chance - just like the other seven.

Ferguson has trained harder for this. Swaby is fit by the looks of things. Will put a tenner on both.

I think Morgan stands a chance, if he's fitter and lighter than last time. Presumably the weigh-in happened yesterday?

I think this one will be even better than last time.

I think Pele Reid has a good chance here, he can definatly punch, and there isn't any real big punchers he's facing. maybe with the exception of Burton.
Plus Reid has the experience of fighting more than once on a bill, from his K1 days.

To digress, I've heard the paying public of Newcastle want the winner to fight Mike Ashley!

Some fanzine is trying to organise a boycott of all things Newcastle United apart from the actual tickets. You can imagine the half-time dilemma of the more rotund Geordie fans in the ground...'Loyalty or pie, loyalty or pie, loyalty or pie...ah f*ck it! Two pies, please!'

Nelson has prepared nearly all of that on their records, which based on the above, are all incorrect.

Simpkin's is way out? 42-10 (29)

Crickey Luke would die for that record.

The records aren't wrong it says 42 fights, 10 wins (eight by ko), 29 losses, 3 draws. But Johnny has obvioulsy misread it as well as he says he's won more than he's lost!

Exactly. Thanks for clearing it up, I couldn't make head nor tale of it.

Same goes for Ingleby.

"On the form book he should be a front runner".

Nelson has lost a lot of respect over these tiny but key oversights.

Its just crap isn't it.

Why not get someone like Ian Mc to do it. Someone who has actually seen the fkkers fight.

Or better still, someone to apply some editorial to it and save Nelson's blushes. Although I'm told he doesn't blush easily even in front of an open window.

That is abysmal. How hard is it to read a frigging fighters record.

I reckon Reid must be in with a very good shout, he's mixed in far better company than anyone assembled, and although he is chinny, there aren't that many big punchers in this tournament. Reid can certainly hit and there's one or two in this tournament who have been stopped plenty of times.

Reid or Burton are my picks.

Must admit I struggled to make sense of those records the other day when reading them but obviously knew Ingleby and Simpkin were puddings who had more losses than wins. Nelson looks a disgrace here. For a man who has BOXED at heavyweight to be so clueless is almost unforgivable. But am excited by tonight so I'll forgive him. Goooooooooo on big High Tower. He owes me £150 so he best win this or I'll never get my dough back. Going up there in a bit.

Reid with his power or Simpkin due to experience and desipte his losses is one tough cookie with plenty of ring smarts.

Wish I was going to this!

I've taken a bit of 8/1 on Ferguson with Stan James.

I sniff a bit of value in Reid at 5-1 surely. He's got the power to hurt anyone in the competition.

Agree, very poor defence. Smart fight by Sexton though.
