Pavlik-Hopkins, how does this affect Joes Legacy?

Allrite, we all know where I stand on the Joe-Hopkins fight, Hopkins stopped Joe doing anything and had the quality work came from the Philly man, he won by 3 rounds..many on here disagree but to those people, they can put Compubaaaaahhhx where the sun dont shine!!! :TU:

But in the end this was one of Joes biggest wins. Yes, many will say that if Hopkins ran him close at 43 then what would he have done at 36, or even 40??? Still, Joe got the W on has a big name on his record.

But what if Kelly, whos coming up from MIDDLEWEIGHT smashes Bernard, or easliy beats him, where does that leave Joe?

Will Joe be left with his legacy tarnished, much in the same way that Jeff Lacy's career has gone down the pan since he was exposed as a One dimensional brawler(by Omar Sheika)

And in the end, if Pavlik does beat Bernard, does Joe have any excuses left not to fight the American???

Don't get ahead of yourself yet, i fancy Hopkins to beat Pavlik on points. Then what does that say about Calzaghe's legacy ???

I think if Joe beats RJJ and Hopkins beats Pavlik then it would be a cracking rematch as long as Hopkins comes to fight and not (wrestle) this time .

To be honest it wouldn't suprise me if Hopkins beat Pavlik, then Joes close win over Hopkins wouldn't look so bad.

I just can't see Bernard having the engine to keep up with Pavlik who fights at a tremendous pace. If he pulls it off at 43 or 44 or whatever it is it will be some co-op

I have a feeling about Bernard Matthews in this fight. He's fought recently (for his standards), so hopefully his cardio will be better and he's as wiley as a fox. Possibly the best Boxing brain of his generation.

Agreed. Pavlik isn't on the same skill dimension, but he has good basics and works at a brutal pace from the outside. However what flaws does he have that Bernard will exploit?

so also what happens if Jeff Lacy beats or gives Taylor a really good fight ?? surely that also gives Calzaghe credit !

That's very, very, very unlikely, imo.

I'd love to see Pavlik tear Bernard a new one as it may force Joes hand into fighting Kelly before he retires.

I ain't arsed about about JC Vs RJJ to be honest (it's just the seniors tour), but JC-Pavlik is an awesome fight whichever you look at it

Your contradicting yourself there by basically saying JC vs RJJ are past it, and if Pavlik beats Hopkins also past it, whats the point in him fighting a past it JC or RJJ it will prove nothing

Because Lacy has looked terrible since the Calzaghe fight. How well do you think Jermain Taylor would do against Epifanio Mendoza or Peter Manfredo Jr? An awful lot better than Lacy did.

Yeah he probably would have done a lot better, but I've got a feeling Lacy will knock him out around the 10th you heard it hear first.

It's obvious that both JC and RJJ have seen better days, but the question is has JC still got enough left to deal with the next generation? JC and Pavlik are currently the top 2 fighters around the 12 stone region and stylistically I think it makes for a cracking fight, it's also a meaningful fight between the new and old guard.

JC Vs RJJ would have been an awesome fight about 5-10 years ago, but the fight has lost it's flavour for me now that both are knocking on and past their best (especially RJJ). If JC beats RJJ it certainly doesn't mean that he'd have done the same 5-10 years ago.

If both Pavlik and JC have 'beat' Nard then it builds the fight up even more and makes JC-KP a Mega-money fight, if JC doesn't hang em up

Not a bad point but even if JC wins and Pavlik wins it is unlikely they will meet don't you think, and if they did meet and Pavlik won people would say he was 37 and past it, and if JC won people would still have some excuse.

You maybe right, I've just checked for upcoming fights and it's listed although no venue yet. Maybe Lacys retirement announcement was just a knee jerk reaction following his last bout

I think Pavlik only has to beat Hopkins unanimously on points - even just marginally, to trump Calzaghe's highly debatable win.

Even if Hopkins edges the win, unless it's by crushing KO, Pavlik vs Calzaghe still has legs.

I mean, if Joe will fight Mandfredo for buttons, or take a warm up against Sakio Bika (whose 168lb record stands at 6-3 with a notable wins over Don Mcrary and Sam Soliman) then I can't forecast any decent excuse not to take the fight and earn several million dollars.

'Pavlik's just been beat' is not an excuse either... he fought Byron Mitchell 2 months after being beaten by Sven Ottke. Maybe he'd rightfully use it to claim a bigger slice of the purse.

Money makes Joe's world go round and he is by no means daft, so I'm sure he will eventually fight Pavlik... unless Kelly batters Hopkins and he thinks twice about it.
