I fully expect Joe to defeat Jones at this stage of their careers. IMO, Jones is shot, a complete shell of the magnificent fighter he once was. Joe should win & win easy & that's not5 me being disrespectful to Jones, who I would have backed to beat Calzaghe had both fought at their peak.

Now its a different story. However, if Joe were to lose, where would that leave him? Would Calzaghe even box again after suffering his first defeat in what is supposed to be his last pro fight?

I think he'd retire and blame the loss on fighting on for too long. Of course, it depends on the nature of the loss.

if calzaghe loses it will be by k.o, having said that he has a great chin, so my pick's calzaghe on points. just can't see jones keeping up with joe for the full 12 rounds, if he loses it's his last fight for defo! if he win's chance's are he'll be tempted for one last fight! (pavlic if he destroy's hopkins)

I dont think he will retire after this as he has said whether he wins or loses. The excuse of fighting on to long I dont think that would work, although he may be past his best hes still at the top.

Can't we stop taking about this for now? The fight is still two months away.

I genuinely expect Calzaghe to retire after this fight, irrespective of the outcome.

He will maintain he has nothing left to prove should he win, and must have made a bob or two by now, so why not call it quits and retire undefeated. If he loses - well - its clearly time to hang 'em up then.

Joe will quit if he loses, I am certain of that. If he wins he will have a final fight at SMW in Cardiff for his fans. No not Pavlik!!!

What makes me laugh when people talk about this fight is, Calzaghe is 36 himself so he is hardly 28 or something, but nobody talks of Joe as shot it or past his best, only RJJ 38 or 39 whatever, but credit to Joe surely for still being at his prime at 36 ????

He would definitely fight again if he loses.

I happen to think that these 2 will fight again regardless.

Both of them are into getting paid these days & fighting each other is the way to maximise that IMMO.

I wouldn't say Calzaghe is still in his prime.Certainly not physically.

He's only got a few fights left himself imo and with his style i expect him to drop off quickly if he keeps going.

Yeah, but Joe's prime was spent knocking over no names, it's only in recent times that he's taken on the bigger names, so people forget how old he is. If he loses to Jones it will have a massive impact on his legacy.

Calzaghe has not shown any real evidence of deterioration, even into his 37th year.

RJJ on the other hand is definitely not the Matrix like boxer he was between 1989 & 2003; he has shown massive signs of deterioration in recent years.

JC is not as sharp or tough as he once was, he has lost 1 step whereas RJJ has lost 3 - this makes them almost equal!

Jones has lost a hell of allot, his style was built on amazing physical talents, which hes simply lost, but Calazage could be fading at 36 himself, and that gives Jones a shot. Stylistically hes faster, better boxer, big puncher whereas Joe has the better workrate and intensity. Calazage is the rightful favourate but its foolish to count Jones out

Joe Calzaghe was floored by a deceptively quick Bernard Hopkins. That shows me that if Jones (who is still quicker than Hopkins) catches Calzone clean on the counter, he will put him down also...(I foresee KDs similar to the Trinidad fight).

On the contrary, Calzone throws looping flurries of shots. If one of his major left hands catches Jones clean, it wouldn't surprise me if Jones was KOd a la the Glenn Johnson fight.

Jones is still a lot quicker and cleverer than Calzone and to a lesser extent Hopkins. He is also more awkward than Hopkins. Depending on the odds, I would have a flutter on a Jones TKO, seriously.
