Malignaggi vacates IBF title!
In an official letter sent to Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) and Juan Urango's promoter Seminole Warriors Boxing, the IBF has confirmed that Paul Malignaggi would not be able to grant mandatory challenger Hermann Ngoudjoa rematch and that he therefore will be vacating his belt. Ngoudjo (17-2-0, 9 KOs) will now face former world champion Juan Urango (20-1-1, 16 KOs) for the vacant IBF junior welterweight (140lb) championship. The IBF has set an October 18th deadline for GYM and Seminole Warriors Boxing to reach an agreement, or it will order a purse bid to determine the details of the bout. According to GYM President Yvon Michel, Ngoudjo was willing to wait to face the winner of Malignaggi-Hatton, but neither fighter would guarantee Ngoudjo a shot at the title. "We were willing to be paitient and step asside to let Malignaggi defend his belt against Hatton, but we would have to be guaranteed an immediate fight against the winner. We never received that guarantee, so we pushed the IBF to call a purse bid, which forced Malignaggi to vacate his title," Michel said.

As somebody on the current scene pointed out, what sense does it make having two guys beaten by Malignaggi and Hatton fight for the title that THEY were scheduled to fight for?

they love stripping don't they.

they should open up a new headquarters in soho.

Ngoudjio should be IBF champ anyway, although I did think Mbaye edged him in the eliminator afterwards.

Didn't Malignaggi fight a mandatry not so long ago so he's still ok to fight a voluntry?

Actually not sure... was Ngoudjo a manadatory - Ndou wasn't.... he just fulfilled a rematch clause with him.

That's all Malignaggi's fault. He knew he had until october to defend his title against N'goudjo before he even signed to fight Hatton.

He thought his promoter could get the IBF to buckle and grant him a delay. He was wrong.

Ngoudjo was willing to step aside to let the fight happen. All he was asking for was a guaranty that the winner of Hatton-Malignaggi would fight him next.

They refused.

I actually admire the IBF for being the only sanctioning body to have the balls to apply their rules. Not that they have a perfect record. But as of late they have shown that if a champion doesn't follow the rules and requirements of being a champion for the IBF. They will not hesitate to strip him.

As has been said Ngoudjo is the rightful IBF champ anyway, he dominated Malignaggi, it wasnt close, should have been an immediate rematch, but there was the Ndou clause. Hatton thought he was getting an easyish belt for a 'super-fight' with Mayweather or Pacquaio

AFAIK it was ok for Hatton-Malignaggi to be for the belt, but both of them were unwilling to have Ngoudjo as a mandatory.
