according to this doghouse article hes gone to the states to workout with roach.
Amir Khan to Workout With Freddie Roach - Exclusive Amir Khan Update
Interview by Gabriel Montoya (Sept 19, 2008) DoghouseBoxing.com This Saturday, newly defeated British sensation Amir Khan will arrive in Los Angeles to begin talks with trainer Freddie Roach about possibly taking over the head trainer position.
"Amir Khan is coming with his father and attorney. They wanted to talk to me about about re-building his career," Roach said today from his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, CA.
Khan's visit will begin an evaluation process and will include workouts with Manny Pacquiao who is in town prepping for his mega-bout with Oscar De La Hoya in December. Roach feels the time with Pacquiao will be well spent for Khan. Pacquiao's work ethic is second to none and is often used by local trainers as a way of showing young fighters just how hard you have to work to not only get to the top but stay there.
"I haven't seen the fight," said Roach, "but I heard it was a bad knockout and probably something hard to come back from. But I figured since Pacquiao is in town, I told him I thought it would be good to be around a champion and see how a real champion works. So I said, come on down."
Is there a chance that we could see some sparring between the two fighters?
"Style-wise I don't know if he is the best guy to prepare Pacquiao for this fight. But they will work together," said a doubtful Roach.
As for when a final decision would be made Roach was unsure.
"Hard to say. The thing is, I believe he needs to get back on that horse as soon as possible. Get some confidence back and take it from there."

Khan and Freddie Roach - December 6?
Posted: 20 Sep 2008, 06:29
by fatton
With it looking like Khan is now going to be trained by Freddie Roach will that affect the December 6th date Sports Network (oh sorry they don't exist any more, I should have said allegedly) have for Khan or will Suntan Dean work the corner again that night with Roach busy at Pacman - De La Hoya?
Or maybe Roach will be left out of the picture altogether and Dean and Rubio will just do a job swap. I want to see more of Rubio's matchmaking.

The Sun never gets it wrong.
Has there ever been a shorter career than Rubio's as Khans trainer?

I did say
could but the sun did get it right about harrison being sacked.
Well what do you expect? you hire a trainer to sort out your flaws and he suggests an opponent for your next fight saying he can be taken in the first 5 rounds who then infact ko's
you in the first round on your ppv debut.
Mind you you cant put the whole blame on rubio as Khan did say when he got in the ring he ignored the advise rubio had given him and went steaming in.

He's been sacked according to The Times as well. No surprise there, Khan stuck his chin out, but Rubio didn't exactly hit the ground running

If Oliver Harrison trained him, Khan would have been knocked out. Khan used to dive bomb opponents and stick his chin out. Khan took lots of right hands under Harrison.
With Powell, he got hurt by left hooks.
With Rubio, he dived in with a body shot and took the left hook counter that started all the trouble.
Khan is Khan. Prescott would have knocked him out no matter who trained him.

That's what happens when you take someone because they are cheap, Rubio has been made a scape goat in my opinion.
The reality is, the people close to Khan wanted this fight too and they pushed for it - Odd how none of those folk are being held accountable ;)

It's pointless going with Freddie Roach. He already has a full schedule and will only be a part time trainer. Khan won't move Stateside full time either.

So Rubio got sacked because he suggested that Khan should fight a real lightweight with a punch. If only he picked a featherweight. He would still be there.
I thought if you wanted to become a world champion you need to fight boxers in your weight class. Rubio just wanted to see what Khan could do to a limited lightweight who could punch. The answer was absolutely nothing.
It'll be back to feathers/superfeathers for the next 2 years! Then he'll get KO'd again when he fights another legit lightweight.
