I'm thinking you mean 25 years ago today
I remember watching that fight from a hotel room in the middle of nowhere. Definitely the South African's greatest hour

Jeez, that's a sign that I'm getting old!. It really feels like it was 15 years ago.

I fixed it.

25 years ago? Seems like yesterday.....thanks for posting.

I find I get much more out of the forum these days by simply going back to reading....much like the days before I figured out how to sign on and offer up my ongoing nonsensical verbage.....Some here refer to that time as the "good old days".

I was one of those folks who saw a lot of potential in Dokes.....his seems a story of what "might have been". He seemed to have missed his train.....and of course Gerrie was happy to show him the off ramp.

I gained a great appreciation of Gerrie from that point on.

I agree with some folks who would say that Gerrie was made to order for Holmes. Poor balance, crossed his feet, susceptible to straight punches, got winded and stood straight up. Holmes would likely have beaten him But Gerrie's power always gave him a shot.

I posted this on the British forum but it is worth a mention here. When Coetzee was being interviewed after his stunning title win over Dokes, he said at one point to British-TV commentator Reg Gutteridge, in his thick South African accent, "I'm going to remain here."
"Romania?" enquired Reg.
