Lockett retires from boxing ring

I thought that it was just a matter of time - where else was there to go for him? Too many good up and coming lads at Middle, he's got his 4 houses and now can concentrate on other things.

Good little fighter, got seriously overmatched when it came to the crunch though; I thought his punch might get some respect from KP, but no chance there. Though glad he got the payday.

Interesting comment from him in BN, about how ill Pavlik looked at the weigh in, giving him confidence.
Then getting the shock of his life when he bumped into Pavlik the next day, who seemed to have superhumanly doubled in size.

He provided some cracking knockouts at british level. By his own admission short of true world class but no shame in that. I wish him all the best in his "after-boxing" endeavours. Nice to see a boxer getting out at the right time - when the desire is no longer there its time to go.

At one time he looked to have serous power but lacking in the basics in my opinion and mentally not as stroing as you would think.

Sounds a bit of a bitter git at times.

I used to like Gary. He was an honest pro with some ambition.. Then i finally realised he was just another comfortable SN fighter.

An honest pro, but i'll probably remember him more for being one of the worst middleweight title challengers of at least the past 40 years.

IMO opinion the people within the WBO who made Gary mandatory challenger need sacking. He's never beaten a top contender at middleweight or light middleweight.

I don't blame Gary for quitting, he should never have been in there in the first place.

Totally agree. Up to this day i dont understand HOW he ever became a mandatory? On the basis of beating who exactly?

Good fighter, Lockett, two-handed, dangerous - he blew away a lot of decent fighters. Credit him for going in with the ferocious and unbeaten Pavlik, who reminds me of a white Marvin Hagler.
It proved Gary was unwilling to settle for the WBU.
