Hi i was at the fight. basically kell was reaching with his jab so was off balance and got caught with a left hook. He only touched down with his glove nothing to bad and took his count. The guy he was fighting was a decent banger aswell had stopped 9 out of his 20 wins. You will also notice that in round 3 kell stopped him.

has he been down once or twice?

cos i remember watching one of his fights on youtube and he was dropped in the first rd.

it was only a flash knockdown.

he was down and straight back up.

brooks's a decent fighter.

never gonna be good enuff for world class though.

147 is a murderer's row at world level.

My money is on kel stopping him.Miles to heavy handed for him, and will outbox him and just wear him down.i don't even think it will be that close.kel is very underated, and he's not even been given a chance yet to show how good he is.Every win has been well within himself.

hopefully mark Thomson can win his eliminator, which i think he will, then fight Brook

Thompson is defo the hardest hitting welter out there, and i dont think many will be able to avoid his power for 12 rounds

i think Thompson is Far too Raw to beat any of the Top Welters in Britain
Ive saw him few times and he is strong but i recall a Fight last year or begining of this year i think and he was being out boxed by a European opponent , think he won close decision though but i had him Draw at most

Kevin was scheduled to fight him and then he got the Anderson call and the rest is history

Every boxer for the last 15 years brought up in the Ingle style gets the replicated criticisms of hands down, too open, no defence etc etc etc.
However, it hasn't stopped Naz, Nelson, Witter, Rhodes, Thaxton, Pickering, etc etc making good inroads at domestic level and above.
When these lads were plying their trade together at Wincobank, Kel was the baby looking in and absorbing - but what a talent as a raw young kid.
He's added physicality to the natural talent he has, and I fully expect him to come through this test and move on.
Like it or loathe it as a style, you cannot be anything but mightlily impressed with what the Ingles have achieved and Kel is yet another quality product of that style.
I hope he puts on a great performance as well as winning, and starts to turn around some of the negative views on him.

But you also have to be a really special fighter, in my view, to make the style work at a level above domestic (reactions like Neo help, as does flexibility at the waist).

Do you not think it's a flawed style against pressure fighters, especially against an overhand punch?

Has any fighter that uses the Ingle style never been floored (Nelson and/or Pickering, maybe)?

Those reactions come from training at the Ingles. If you learn their footwork, it gives you such an advantage. I think pressure fighters are some of the easiest to handle for an Ingle fighter -make them mis and make them pay.Johnny, Na, Junior and Ryan, have all been very good at making people fight at a pace that suits them and making them miss as well.I love that style. To me its good to watch and what boxing is all about -to hit and not get hit.

Agree completely. Thompson is raw with a capital R and as a result his power won't be anywhere near as effective when he mixes in a higher class.

I've made this argument before as a counter - if individuals like Nelson and Thaxton hadn't employed the 'Ingle style', do you think they would have achieved the success they have? If you look at it from this perspective you can argue that it's actually allowed many of those fighters to 'over-achieve'. I certainly find it bordering on impossible to make a case that Nelson would have gone beyond domestic class if he'd adopted the same style as most 'conventional' British fighters.
Equally, I've never seen people on here arguing that more conventional styles are fundamentally flawed on the basis that fighter x or y has been stopped e.g. when Herol Graham was stopping everyone domestically with ease, no-one was suddenly arguing that the British/European conventional approach was an inherently flawed style due to fighters being too upright, head too static etc.

EPNG,
Well if you have to be a very special fighter, then Brendan has been blessed, cos he's had a shed load of them.
That CANNOT be a coincidence.
By the way Pickering has been on his arse - big style !
Johnny has been down as well.
Deserter makes a good point.
Was the conventional style pulled to pieces when all of the lads were putting stoppages on their records with regularity ?
No.
Look I know I am biased being a Sheffield lad, and I know that there are some flaws with the style, but no one has invented boxing perfection.
The art of pugilism is to hit and not be hit.
Give me a better gym than Wincobank for instilling that doctrine.
There does come a time when reactions fade, and there also comes a time when boxers need to change style, or "mix it up".
That's why some fighters have moved on from Wincobank.
However, the basic principals of movement as outlined by Big Lennox never leave you - but if you add to it, great.
It's a strange thing, but even those that have moved on, are easily recognised as ex Ingle fighters, at all levels.
I'll go as far as to say, if Big Lennox walked into a gym and started again, you would know where he started his boxing even after a few "gap years" !
Kel's had a spell away, now he's back.
I believe he learnt something while he was away - we shall see.

i agree that Ingles have produced some quality fighters and some Real world class guys
but i think it was on Sky sports blog by Glen Mccrory that for every few good boxers there is that there are a load of Mediocre or Journey men type charachters

Im a big fan of Naz , witter , thaxton
but ive also saw a few times ingle being in the corner of the Journey man opponent
Andrew Facey , Daniel Thorpe and Various others whos name i dont recall.

Nelson was successuful but one of the most boring fighters ive ever seen
seemed to be always fighting in europe when i saw him and very Negative but got the job done

Still to produce the guys he has its worth it.

But to think that Kell is the second coming of Naz then i dont think so
It is the media that label them with this

However Brendan doesnt do himself any favours when he said Witter was hitting harder pound for Pound than Naz and Now Brook will get same speel

All part of the Boxing Bravado though

when kell's hand is raised and he still champion i hope all the haters stand up and acknowledge him as the british champion. it seems to me that he is recieveing all this hate because of what the board did to mcintyre and because he's a sports network fighter.

the ingle style is exciting to watch in my opinion, much better than the ortherdox european style

Jackthehat,

I disagree.I think Junior's timing was off on the night and Tim Bradley had better stamina than him on the night/this stage of Juniors career?

Trsut me, it really isn't just as simpel as sticking t your game plan when fighting an Ingle boxer.I've seen countless quality guys, amateur and pro sparring and in fights struggle to fathom the Ingle style. With the best will in the world, when you are being made to miss repeatedly you begin to doubt yourself. And to me that's what boxing is all about -hit and not being hit + mental disintegration.

As Twentysix says, there is always room for improvement in anyones style or at different stages of their careers, but fundementally, the Ingle style of boxing is very, very hard to match let alone beat.

As for Johnny, people confuse being bored by his style with him not being very good.I for one enjoyed watching him -to make that many good fightersmiss and box his fight time and again, and on away soil to, is quite something.Trust me on that.

Naz didn't get found out with the Ingles - he was undefeated with them

To call Facey a journeyman is harsh when he's been English champion for years
