Gavin Rees vs Francisco Figueroa

by Horse
Previously undefeated in 27 bouts, Rees has not fought since he lost his WBA title to Andreas Kotelnik back in March. But a deal has now been brokered to allow him to fight against American Frankie Figueroa on Calzaghe’s undercard out in New York on November 8.
It seems like a very tough comeback fight for him. Is he the favourite or the underdog here?
And did Warren agree to let Rees fight on a Calzaghe show? Or doesn't he promote Rees anymore?

I personally know el gato, good lad, he sparred with hatton, mosley and others, so he's a tricky operator!
I thought Rees retired and was doing well in real estate?

It's Lockett who retired.

Rees is with Calzaghe now.
I guess they figured, if he's got any hope of doing anything on the world scene he needs to be able to beat guys like Figueroa.
If Rees had gone to Lightweight, i'd love to see fight Thaxton. Thats a war.

Anyone know how long Bradley Pryce and Macca have got left on their contracts with Wazza /
Looks like this is the start of the end of Wazza and Wales.

Big respect to Gavin for not taking on a bum in his comeback bout. Rees certainly has to be given credit for wanting to face anyone.
After the loss to Kotelnik, Rees said it was his intention to move back down to LW, so why has this not happened? LW is clearly a better weight for him than LWW. Rees should be boxing at LW, not above that weight class!

Rees has no chance at LWW. The guy shouldn't be fighting at any higher weight than super-feather, if truth be told the guy's a featherweight who obviously lacks discipline when it comes to making weight.

Gavin Rees Injured, Withdraws From Figueroa Bout
BS.com has been advised that Gavin "The Rock" Rees (27-1, 13 KOs) has pulled out of his fight with Frankie "El Gato" Figueroa (19-2, 13KOs), citing a possible broken nose suffered during training camp.
The fight was scheduled to take place on the Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones Jr. November 8 undercard at New York's Madison Square Garden. Figueroa will appear on the show, no replacement has been named at the present.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering whether this injury could be connected Enzo Calzaghe musing about quitting the other day.
It seems that none of his fighters can get any fights at the moment, because of injuries, 'television scheduling' etc.
Why are we not hearing more about this story in the media?... It is fascinating politics, but sad for the boxers involved.

I doubt they're related, it's more to do with FW.
A lot of people seem to be making their first posts either solely about the Calzaghes or Hattons.
Richard Roma - Glengarry Glen Ross. Great movie.

I've read this forum for a while. The situation at the Calzaghe gym is what motivated me to post... I want to see big Enzo Mac back and fighting etc.
As for Gavin Rees, put it this way... I was really surprised that he was going to fight on Joe's bill in New York, I am not really surprised that he has been pulled out...

Enzo's had a shite time since winning his big Sports Personality prize, besides JC beating Nard. If he were to lose to RJJ it would be a terrible way for them both to leave the game. He should get JC ready for Jones and the pair of them should retire together after a points victory.
.....thanking their lucky stars that they never had to face Roy in his prime!

Mac and co will leave Enzo at some point because of FW. I don't think Enzo Cal's heart will be in it after taking his son to the top of the tree. Training Rees and Enzo Mac won't have the same lustre.
He should get a job as a motor racing commentator, he talks that fecking fast.....

Hang on guys what about Bradley Pryce ?
Far more worthy of concern than Gavin Rees in my book.
I ask again - does anyone know how long these lads are locked into Wazza ?
There is a release route - "inactivity" - that you can present to the board on appeal.

Bradley is a good fighter. He needs to press on a bit.
Be good to see Enzo Mac back in the ring.
