Calzaghe-Hopkins 2 has to happen now.

Joe should beat Jones quite comfortably in my view. I expect nothing less than a comprehensive victory for Calzaghe. Jones is shot, nowhere near the future he once was.

Hopkins proved all the doubters wrong once again last night. He skooled Pavlik. I thought Hopkins beat Calzaghe & I would back him to win a rematch!

Hopkins' class was there vs Calzaghe but he flagged and conned his way through with bogus low blow complaints. Joe won - barely - but he got the verdict away from home. In America, they appreciate workrate I guess, and don't like to see what Hopkins was doing (all but the ref seemed to understand).

I don't know if Joe has the mindset to rematch a guy who ran him close. As with the Reid fight.

Fukc the huge money Joe could earn in a rematch, it would be a disaster for Joe if Hopkins fought like that. Joe needs to stay well away from Hopkins who stripped away the years fighting Pavlik proving he is an ATG and a boxing legend.

I hope there's no rematch. The first fight was incredibly boring!

To be honest I think Joe will actually retire after this fight unless he receives an offer which is too good to turn down.

Although as I was a massive fan of Jones back in the day I'm just hoping for that upset to happen but it's highly unlikely so I'll just have to keep dreaming :(

Hopkins beat Calazage for me and I had it around 8-4 plus the KD. Hopkins landed the much much cleaner punches and Calazage missed the vast majority of his shots and barely landed clean all night. Clean shots are what its all about

However not sure Hopkins-Calazage 2 is the big ticket seller. And Calazage has to get past Jones, who despite being well past prime is still maybe in with the top2 Joe's faced

I really hated Joe's performance vs Hopkins, but I think he probably deserved to win. I don't think Joe's thrown a clean hard punch with the knuckle for years. Hopkins certainly landed the clean ones, but he couldn't seem to live with the pace. Class is one thing but sustaining the good work is another and this is where Hopkins failed v Calzaghe. I thought Hopkins won 5 rds plus the point for the KD; however he conned an extra round when pretending he was hurt by a phantom low blow. So I'm not wholly comfortable giving him that round 10, because he cheated to win the round. If the ref had control of the fight, Hopkins wouldn't have done as well.

If Hopkins could fight Calzaghe the way he fought Pavlik, I think he would have. He did so much spoiling so much less fighting v the Welsh flapper. Hopkins had an extra 2 or 3 pounds vs Calzaghe. He doesn't seem particularly strong at 170 (see the Winky fight) but was nimble enough v Pavlik.

Didn't Calzaghe admit afterwards he intentionally went for low-blows out of frustrarion ?

I agree abou calzaghe's punching, the last time I saw him actually throw a hard straight shot was against that armenian guy named Merguez which as everyone knows is a type of french sausage.

I don't know. It wasn't a bad low blow though. I think the simulated sodomy was down to frustration.

I can see where you are coming from, but I'm not so sure that the result would be any different.

I don't believe that Hopkins was in any less fit or focused against Joe & I also believe that Calzaghe is on another level to Pavlik & the man just knows how to win fights.

I believe that the result would be the same if they fought again.

Joe would still win on faster hands and work rate, Pavlik Is just another Lacy hype job.

Lol, at the commentators saying Pavlik has a good jab, he was mostly pawing It.

Hopkins is quicker than Joe, that much was evident in the first fight. Time and time again he beat Joe to the punch.... just didn't punch enough (cause he thought he was winning) did win the rounds convincingly enough. Did enough for me.

Not sure about faster, but he has superior timing and punch delivery.

Regardless, Joe surely won't rematch Hopkins, a guy who really gave him problems. Would Hopkins want a rematch, given how tired he was late on?

Well he did with Taylor..... I just think Hopkins thought he had the fight in the bag so eased it in the end. He had a good 12 for me (level). He'd fight different next time, and today showed he is capable of doing it.

I don't think Hopkins would fight Joe any different. He was the same in both Taylor bouts, when he needed to do something different. Pavlik being a puncher who telegraphed his shots just turned out to be easy pickings. If anything Calzaghe might adjust better, though his style showed limitations vs Hopkins, a counter puncher.

Probably Hopkins has no need to fight Joe again. He can fight middleweights in catchweight bouts for no titles and get big money. GBP with HBO let him have main event status, whether he's coming off a masterclass or stinker and - as in the case with Pavlik - the big names have to come, sometimes, and make concessions. Obviously the next big payday would come vs RJJ-JC winner, but Hopkins was in dull fights with both.

I hope Joe beats Jones and retires. Then the Ring title is vacant. That way, WBC champ Chad Dawson becomes top man in the division and it all has to centre round him. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Hopkins-Glen Johnson II. Can't see anyone else who'd fight him, except Dawson, and Dawson's too young, fresh and southpaw.

ALOT of Joe's rounds were close, I think (well maybe cause I scored the fight to Hopkins) that Hopkins won his rounds bigger. Hopkins caught Joe clean in most if not all the rounds. Clean enough to make the crowd go "ohhh" and the sweat spray from Joe's head. All Hopkins needed to do was go forward on the occurances and try and keep Joe on the back foot, even if it was for only 10 seconds... and he would have got the decision. It was kind of like Eubank vs Thompson 1 (again I thought Chris won) but had Chris just done something more when he had the initative, then he would have won the fight big on the cards.

Hopkins did it for the first 4 rounds, then just stopped - but they were already saying it was in the bag in the corner.

Kessler and Lacy's faces say different. You may want to debate the definition of clean perhaps, but regardless, their faces told a story and indicated that the punches did their job - damage.

For me, Calzaghe clearly won. I pray there is no rematch as Hopkins is a horrible fighter to watch who would simply spoil and cheat his way to a sixth defeat.

OK, punches landed with the knuckle, thrown with proper body weight behind it. Not just thrown from the elbow. I think you have to go back to before the Salem fight.

I felt Hopkins should have retired after the Tarver schooling but he didn't and he looked to have sullied his legacy - until this. The 43-year-old schooled a 26-year-old, previously unbeaten puncher, and must have been well-paid.
NOW, he should walk away.

Indeed.

From what i saw, Calzaghe was knocked down in the first round, and was wobbled several more times than Hopkins was. Not to mentioned the cuts and bruises visible on Calzaghe.

I personally had it for Hopkins, but if im being serious, whatever the given score was, in reality it was nothing but a draw.

ummmmm you are joking, right?

Is there something wrong with you lot? do you actually really want to see Calzaghe - Hopkins 2, considering the 1st fight was perhaps the biggest letdown of the last 5 years.

It was a horrible, horrible fight and not one that will ever be repeated

Also the fight tanked on HBO, they will have zero interest in broadcasting a rematch, so this talk of "big money" for the fight is pure boxrec forum hogwash

how can you say Calzaghe needs to stay away from hopkins you idiot he's already beaten him, and the reason hopkins didnt fight like that against joe is because joe wouldnt let him unlike pavlik
