Commonwealth Belt.

How do we get in touch with the people who sanction Commonwealth title fights..... I mean a guy with a 1-1-1 record is fighting Broadhurst for this title... Come on BBBoC - this shouldn't be allowed.

And yes, he made a winning start, then a draw, then a defeat and he hasn't fought for a year!

This simply cannot continue. We have had one boxing injury recently and that was in a relative 50:50 fight between two experienced campaigners. This match, and matches like it are asking for trouble and to have a belt on the line on top of it..... I don't care how good the BBBoC is compared to other countries, they need brining in.

Is that the guy's actual record though? He could well have had a few more fights.

Maybe, maybe not... but considering the BBBoC tell managers/promoters to use this site to find a suitably matched fight. I doubt they know alot more fight. I hope they do - but fight fax is soon becoming outdated as the internet sites, such as this one are taking over.

I am an ousider here, and I am sure others will no alot more - but from what I have heard I doubt the BBBoC would know alot more about his record. Although they might have seen one of these fights.

Look guys, even if he's won 6 more fights than the record says, and maybe lost another, is a record of 7-1-2 good enough to fight for the Commonwealth title - NO.
Fact is a certain Promotor is now working with this sanctioning body closely and these fights are gonna be appearing on all of his bills.

Stu,
Go to their website.
www.commboxing.com.
Identical layout to BBBOFC.
Look at last notice. Tells you all you want to know.
We're running it basically - or is someone else ?

Stu, have you considered a petition? It sounds a bit Wolfey Smith, but it might give it a bit more weight with them?

Just a thought.

Is this the first ever fight for the superfly title?

and also why hasn't the flyweight title been fought for in ages? not since April 2007.

It does seem that boxers from Ghana are given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their records.

In all likelihood his record will be better than that statistically, but even allowing for the sketchy nature of some Third World recordkeeping, it has to be said that if those missing bouts were of genuine significance, then they WOULD be on his BoxRec ledger. If he had fought/beaten guys at Commonwealth level - and you'd hope that would be the case if he's fighting for the belt - then those results would definitely be on BoxRec. BoxRec is not perfect but it's very, very comprehensive, and if a bout doesn't make it on to here, there must be a good reason for it.

Michael Hunter wanted to box for the vacant Commonwealth super-bantam crown (his old belt - now vacant) on the Barnes - Lynes Dec 5 bill. But the Board have told he he must first "prove himself" with a tune-up. Double standards or what?

I'm quite concerned with Broadhurst's qualifications to fight a 12 rounder as well, he has so far only gone 6 rounds twice, and this was against proven survivors Gary Sheil and Alain Bonnel.
Both of those would have gone in the ring with not alot of ambition, so for me Broadhurst is unproven at a distance in a competitive fight.

Broadhurst should of at least had a couple of 8 rounders , with one of those in a fight where he's tested a bit.
As has been said already on here Isaac Quaye has not much experience, but he has been 12 rounds twice, and in competitive fights, not just ring exercises against journymen.

If this was an 8 rounder i would be all for it, but 12 rounds isn't right

Rediculous how Michael Hunter needs to prove himself - he hasn't been missing that long and was a good European champion and Broadhurst and this fella can fight for the vacant title.

I was thinking of emailing the Com Council, just a couple of lines expressing my disgust at this match up and the double standards.... if people want to also do it, then please feel free. I think it would be better if we filled their inbox with seperate mails than a petition.

Go via the BBBoC until 20th November. I got a circular saying just this the other day. Trashed it though.

The Comm belt is cack now. And if I had time, money and a good lawyer, I'd enlighten you regarding the process of how some African boxers get their records.

It looks like you can't have it both ways, you either accept that the bogus titles such as the WBU, IBA, WBF etc,. etc exist and will be used to sell tickets and get viewers or the genuine championships such as the Commonwealth and no doubt soon British will take them over as worthless trinkets.

I'd leave things well alone. :shame: What could happen is a second division title could be started up for those not deemed quite good enough for the full title AND we definitely don't need any more titles no matter how good the intention might be.

No disrepect Stu Jones, but you've been proved wrong before about Commonwealth title fights. They were panned then turned out to be ok. If the guy Broadhurst is fighting is a Ghanain, the chances are they a pretty tough and pretty competent. I'm note saying it's ideal match, but I'm not sure Broadhurst should be denied his chance or his opponent the opportunity of work.

The Commonwealth title isn't "cack", there has been poor matches and it probably isn't as strong as it used to be, but it still serves a purpose and has a strong history. Tell Paul Trustcott he poured his heart and soul in winning a "cack" title after that fight. He'd have well appreciated a comment like that. :(

If we're starting bashing titles again the Commonwealth title is better than a lot out there and it must be remembedd it's not claiming to be a "world title" so should be judged accordingly in the current climate.

The Butch,

I had no qualms about the Truscott fight, his opponent was worthy in fighting for the Commonwealth FEATHERWEIGHT title. What he wasn't worthy of, was after losing to Truscott, fighting for the vacant Commonwealth Super Featherweight title. Maybe he could have been a voluntary defence for Kevin Mitchell... but lets be honest, Mitchell was "stripped" in order to save a TV date and its happening since (with Dean Francis - although I have no problems with that match up), and its happening with Broadhurst.

Would Broadhurst be fighting for a title had the Brook vs McIntyre bout gone ahead? Nope...... Broadhurst would be fighting in a 6/8 rounder. Now he is fighting (and will win) a title in a fight that is essentially worthy 8 round contest. I aint saying don't postpone the bill, but lets not put the such a nice belt on the line.

With Truscott is was a gamble, as he was fighting a decent known operator - with Broadhurst its not and he'll have the same title.... massive difference. Even now with Truscott, why isn't he defending the title.

I would say the worst Commonwealth champion or fella who fought vacant title was the guy who Issac Ward beat. I mean, no disrespect intented, but Issac should really only be an area level champion.

Its only cause I like the belt and its historical value that I am so concerned with its development. If Ricky Burns won the WBF world title - yes sure, he could tell his mates he is a world champion... most of his mates would probably laugh in his face - but now he can tell his mates he has a belt that the likes of Lewis has used as a stepping stone. Its a traditional stepping stone title for world honours and I don't like seeing it abused.

The Commonwealth title has been singled out before for a shellacking but if other bogus title were abolished the Commonwealth title could probably improve the quality of the challengers.

There's so much choice out there if the Commonwealth Council applied ultra stringent criteria promoters would, and have, simply opted for something else. Instead it is still being kept active. Not always ideal, granted, but if only the people running the Commonwealth title played the quality game the number of contests taking place for it would drop to a new low and the ABC boys would happily scoop up those turned down.

Broadhurst has good amateur credentials and has been a pro for a couple of years so has some idea of the pro game. I think it would unfair to deny him his chance. God forbid anything bad happens to him with this being a 12 rounder, but if we start going there it will open a whole new can of worms.

The Truscott comment was more to do with the title being called "cack" which is over the top.

The Commonwealth belt is now a shadow of its former self.

Truscott, nor Argy Ward, nor Broadhurst deserve a shot at a 'major' title.

The very fact they get one (along with 'mystery' Africans) proves how far back it's gone.

That's it.

ALL championships have "gone back" because of the increase in titles available ... end of. Why keep harping on about the Commonwealth title? Witter-N'Dou was a very high quality match up that would probably eclipse a lot of "world title" fights. The Commonwealh council are no worse than most of the bodies out there and are probably better because you don't expect the two best contenders to be boxing for it due to the plethora of choice.

There may have been some cack matches for it, but the title is not cack, not yet. The WBF is clearly a cack title. The commonwealth title still holds value. It can lead to bigger and better or offer a fighter of this level the chance of championship action and increased wage.

I'd agree with that 'TheButch'. The Commonwealth title has gone back a bit, because of the multiude of other more 'cack' titles available.

Saying that though, we have got Ricky Burns v Yakubu Amidu for the superfeather title coming up, which is a very good fight.
And have got some good boxers in Watson, Pryce, Barker, Cleverly all holding there respective weight division title, which leads to some good fights.
