Peter Buckley booked as a HOME fighter! But yeah, next Friday he is booked as a home fighter on the Aston Villa bill- his opponent is TBC.

theyll need someone pretty bad for this home fighter to win.

i remember for his 200th fight they matched him up to win on allegedly show , got limo to the fight etc and still got beat.

I've thought about that- what sort of money will he be paid on average? I think a journeyman can expect about £600-£800 a fight. Having an average of about 20 fights a year gives an annual income of around £17 000- and that is before tax, and other fees etc.

Thats a decent- but not massive- salary. Sure, he probably does something else as well , but even so, its not as spectacular as it sounds.

I would guess that pay varies depending on how tough a night the journeyman is going to give his opponent.
Some journeyman get well paid I imagine, very well paid(more than the prospect)
Someone like Julius Francis when he was taking on the young German based fighters would have picked up some lovely purses.

As for Buckley? I have zero idea to be honest!!!!

If he has decent job he reeally should chuck it

I dont agree with promoters saying there young guys learn from him

They probably have harder work out on the bags than just punching him about

Is it MORE or LESS pay if a journeyman is booked at short notice? I would have thought it was more, because short notice isn't easy, and naturally at short notice less people will be available. That said, I notice some promotors often leave it very late to announce the "TBC" fighter- seems odd that they would book fighters at short notice if they have to be paid more.

Its a bit of sparring that a young fighter can benefit from, plus a win to boost his record. Before you say a win against Buckley wouldnt look all that good, not everyone checks who a fighter has beaten. Lets be honest Bredis Prescott beat a few people who had never even won a fight.

Lots of people have beaten boxers who have never won a fight.

Difference is, abroad there are a lot of these never-winning types, or with just a handful of wins- and these guys tend to get knocked out or stopped quite a lot. Really, it is questionable if they should be fighting at all.

The difference is that a British journeyman is very rarely stopped. I think Buckley has only ever been stopped 10 times. British journeymen are perfectly capable fighters- they know how to fight the fight, not get too hurt- they just don't do enough to win.
