No press conferences in the UK? Certainly nought I've seen anyway....

I know the fight would have been bigger 5/6 years back but even so it seems very low key. No stories of 1000s of Brits heading to Vegas, no footage of Jones repeatedly telling us how he will 'own' JC, this fight could do with some bad-mouthing.

I don't think the fight is a joke though.

Calzaghe is pretty much recognised as the Numero Uno Light-Heavyweight and undefeated and fighting a legend trying to turn back the clock one last time.

I think some of you overdo the cynicism sometimes.

This fight is a joke, Spurs not a big club, do you even like sport?

Its hilarious how this fight is somehow considered a joke on here, yet the same people are calling for Calzaghe - Hopkins 2....

I hope Jones knocks Calzaghe out but in reality I'll be suprised if he wins a round. Last time Jones got in with a world class fighter was 3 years ago with that dreary one sided loss to Tarver.

I suppose you gave Ali a chance vs Holmes also? Most pundits called that a joke, despite the money being good, despite Ali looking in good shape and despite that less than two years before Ali retired as the #1 in the devision. It turned out to be a joke.

Its a geniune enough fight, Jones just about is worthy of his crack due to past accomplishments and the lack of depth in the devision. But there are better fights for Joe, not necessarily bigger but better. Dawson, Hopkins, Tarver, Johnson all deserve a shot before Jones - and it could be argued that Erdei and Garay do also.

Jones beat Hopkins - 15 years ago.

Just wanted to say I don't think it's a 'super' fight either - just that I'm surprised just how low key this is.

The media could have drummed up more interest with Joe Public for this imo.

It doesn't stand to be a great fight.

It depends on how much you believe Jones has clawed his way back. He showed some guts beating Hanshaw, but the Tito fight was a bit silly - Trinidad was bloated - and this is what made Jones marketable again. A modern legend having a comeback is always going to mean something. Perhaps the most compelling thing is that Jones made it through the Hanshaw fight without falling to pieces, and that Joe has problems with counter punchers.

One thing that cheapens the fight is that Jones has been splattered by Tarver and Johnson, both of whom have lost two world title fights recently.

I would disagree with the second point, the reason there is less fuss made of this fight is because the Calzaghe's are promoting it and are poor marketeers. Roy Jones is the greatest name in the sport in the last 20years and Joe is arguably our best in that time, its an easy sell even if Jones is way past his best.

Simple stujones, we have already seen Calzaghe fight Hopkins and it was a fornicating horrible fight, i couldnt give a toss who is the number 1, 2, 6 or 245th in the world, i do however want to see entertaining fights

Well considering i was 2 years old when Ali fought Holmes, thats not exactly relevant. If you are talking retrospectively, then what kind of argument is that?

its not about who deserves what, boxing is never, and has never been about who deserves anything.

I don't think anyone wants to see Calzaghe-Hopkins 2. However, many of us are disappointed at Joe's boxing in that one, and some want to see him perhaps improve on that. Hopkins - whether genuine or not - was offering to fight in the UK, and I'm sure of the two, Joe could improve on his performance, especially at home.

Personally, I would have liked to see Calzaghe vs Glen Johnson. Johnson's always dangerous, and I'm prety sure he would make it an entertaining fight. But obviously, that fight isn't as marketable.

As I've said a few times, might be best for everyone if Joe - with his biscuit hands - retires after hopefully beating Jones. Let Dawson, Hopkins, Johnson, Cloud, Shumenov etc all have some good fights and sort out the next #1 at light heavy.

Jones does still have fast hands, but his legs are weak now & he's flattered by the Tito match.

Why do we need to look at it retrospectively though - Jones has looked poor for years. He's not gone from P4P king to the 6th best in a devision with no depth for no reason.

If you think this is the best fight out there for Joe then thats your call. Personally, I think there are 5 or 6 more worthy opponents.

It reminds me of DLH vs Camacho in many ways. Prime for Prime it would have been interesting, okay this fight wouldn't have been as Jones would have won easily, but now Joe is fighting a shadow of Roy (as DLH did against Camacho) who got his shot based on beating up a way past it comebacking great (Leonard/Tito) and on name value. Was that a joke defence for DLH - yes and it wasn't a retrospective thing, people knew this before. Jones is still in the top #6, so its not joke fight - he deserves his shot, but lets not hype it to anything more than that. Its a relatively routine defence for Joe against a past it fighter - and I hope I do have egg on my face.

To be honest, I'd be more hyped if Roy fought Dean Francis or Clinton Woods - I see that as a closer match, than this one.

It's disgusting Calzaghe can get away with fighting passed-it Champions.

Sure RJJ is not 43, but he shockingly more passed it than Hopkins is. This fight would not happen if, say, RJJ was in his prime. It just won't happen. That's the thing with Calzaghe, never took a risk in his entire career.

Seriusly, biggest waste in talent in this history of Boxing: Calzaghe. Simply for being scared of a loss.

Money talks these days I'm afraid, you could argue that Jones beat a washed up former champion in Mike McCallum if you wanted. As stated Larry Holmes beat a washed up Ali. Holyfield, Tyson and McCall beat a washed up Larry Holmes, it's happened before it'll keep on happening.

I aint convinced McCall beat Holmes. I thought that fight was very close.

I'm not going to be around to see this fight and I'm really not bothered. I'm glad it's not getting the hype that it could be, the real Jones Jr hasn't been seen since Ruiz over 4 years ago and isn't about to make a return.

Calzaghe will again find it hard to land clean punches I'm sure, but won't have to worry too much about the volume of shots coming back at him. Jones Jr's engine has been worn out for a good while now.
