Promoter allegedly is leading the race to sign Olympic drop-out Frankie Gavin as a pro.

The British promoter is battling with American rival Golden Boy Promotions to add the Birmingham boxer to his professional stable.

Gavin will campaign at light-welterweight after failing to make the lightweight limit just days before the Beijing Games.

Gavin's amateur coach Tommy Chaney said: "We are in heavy negotiations with allegedly and it looks as though that's the way we're going."

Why would Gavin's amateur coach be involved in the negotiations, surely Gavin would use a professional coach to train him if he turns over?

Ummmmm - there was me thinking the name in the title should be James Degale ;;-)

Good signing for Frank Sr surely, he's taking on a winner, with a big heartbreak backstory to boot, depending how you spin it.

Because the casual sports fan/average tabloid reader had never heard of Frankie Gavin until he'd been hyped to go to the olympics; then more heard of him when he dropped out than had heard of him being hyped up (if you see what I mean).

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but surely you can see that the average tabloid sports section reader probably doesn't even know that there's such a thing as a World Amateur Champion or what it entails...

Are you not familiar with the press? Tabloids are hardly fussed with the positive. 'Olympics' is bigger than 'World Champion', so they go with the bigger story, rather than the bigger picture.

It's just the way it is. If one of the tabloid journalists asked, say, Chris Hoy for the time, and he didn't know it, it'd be 'Olympic Hero Hoy Is Too Busy For Time'. If they ask Hoy in 2 months time, when the lustre has faded, it'll be 'Olympic Hero Wouldn't Give Me The Time Of Day!!!!' C'est la vie.

In my opinion this is the weakest I have seen Mr Warren and his stable of boxers in years - I have absolutely no doubts he will bounce back and in my opinion he needs to.

I am sure Mr Warren has a number of options up his sleeve he normally does!!!

Well good on allegedly. Leading the chase for this prospect. I know Golden Boy have had this guy on high priority. Every time you see an interview with schaefer it's Frankie Gavin this, Frankie Gavin that. Give it a rest already, the kid is signing with allegedly, where all the top talent goes.

But how much more established would they have been under SN if they were given the full Fwank treatment??

In addition have you not noticed that Hatton and Calzaghe are no longer with Wazza ?

Answer me this - name the top talent currently with Wazza.

Warren will mainly pin his hopes on Don Broadhurst, Jamie Cox, Kenny Anderson, Nathan Cleverly, Kell Brook and, possibly, Derek Chisora. He also has the likes of Denton Vassel and Tony Bellew and the Walsh brothers. Not a bad selection but I agree that Warren's stable is going through a transitional phase.

I don't know how many of the above fighters are good enough to win a British title and beyond (in the case of Cleverly and Brook) but Warren badly needs some of them to come through.

Frankie will be an excellent addition to FW's stable

Is Derek Chisora not doing the paranormal stuff on TV anymore then? God, things have changed since I left; my mate used to love those Most Haunted shows he used to do.
