There is a bit on the bbc about it, he's relocating to Manchester and Arnie is going to be his trainer.
Have to wonder why Hennessey didn't get the signature, especially only days after offering 5 million to Calzaghe. It would appear from that, that Hennessey have the funds.
Yeah right.

Just a thought watching the bit with Frank and Frankie, does Gavin always look that disinterested, I would have thought he would be buzzing about turning pro now the decision was made but he just seemed as if he was in another world to me.
Read somewhere that there were some 'issues' going on but no idea what they are, just hope he is fully focused when he goes over as he has undoubted ability and we could do with another real star coming through.
Joe and Ricky are near the end, we all know the end result with Amir and I am hoping Gavin may take us on a bit.
Just would have thought he would have had more to say and looked keen, perhaps its him normally, I don't know, just a view anyway.
Good luck Frankie

Suprised that Ritchie Woodhall isn't going to train him as he is local and excellent
Saying that i'm hearing really good things about Farnell too

Close to doesn't mean he has !
Seriously though, out of all of the talent likely to turn pro by 2009 I think this lad's the biggest gamble.
Let's see what Arnie can do with him and the weight issues.

Not as excited looking as Darren Sutherland the other week, was he?
Then again he looks like a quiet lad, and may not want to say too much if a Warren deal isn't signed and sealed.

Obviously he doesn't have to, an I expect Farnell to do an excellent job, but I still find it strange that Ritchie has a stable full of SN fighters on Gavin's doorstep, and he is going elsewhere, I wonder if there is any history there, or am I just reading too much into things!

Ive only seen Frankie's Chigaco fights and he does look legit. The 140 division seems weak, with Hatton and Witter set to call it a day at some point soon i imagine.
It's gonna be hard trying to train and fight with a newborn in the house !

Sorry to change the subject slightly but are we expecting to see James DeGale turn pro or stay amateur until 2012?

Well he was on Ricky Speaks recently on nuts tv and said he was deciding over which promoter or something along those lines. A bit non-committal.
It has been quiet on that front though.

I imagine DeGale will turn pro soon and with Warren. He's playing the field trying to get a mega deal but he will soon realise that unless olden Boy come knocking then it aint happening.
As for Gavin, he always looks melancholy and downhearted. If he turns pro he may have weight issues and strikes me as the type of boxer who will have 'demons', a Danny Williams sort.

If you are correct I am absolutely delighted for Arnie Farnell - He is going places as a trainer in my view - lets see how he does with Gavin if you are correct about this.

Frankie Gavin believes he can become a professional world champion by 2012 after admitting his recent Olympic heartbreak convinced him not to risk waiting four years for the London Games.
The world amateur lightweight champion revealed last night he is set to sign with leading promoter allegedly next week with his debut in the paid ranks scheduled for early next year.
Gavin, 23, was an overwhelming favourite for Olympic gold in Beijing but was controversially forced to pull out after failing to make the weight.
He had qualified for the Olympics by becoming Britain's first world amateur champion last November and was already having difficulty making the 60kg weight limit.
After missing out on Beijing, the prospect of waiting another four years for his Olympic chance in London and risking something similar happening or seeing his dreams wrecked by injury was a major factor in his decision to turn professional.
And he is now eager to turn his attention to fulfilling his dreams on the professional circuit.
"The plan is to win a world title by 2012, definitely," he told PA Sport.
Gavin, set to be trained by Mancunian Anthony Farnell, will fight at the 10st light-welterweight limit and pursue the traditional route of British, Commonwealth and European titles before aiming for world glory.
"I'm not going to rush myself, I'm going to see how it goes and hopefully keep on winning. If I do that, the titles will come," he said.
"I haven't signed yet but I'm very close to signing, the deal should be done next week with allegedly. He made his interest known quite a while ago. He's the best promoter in Britain by far, if not the world.
"February is likely to be my debut. I could have boxed in December, but my baby is due."
Knowing the potential problems in making the weight for the Olympics, Gavin had hoped to move up to light-welterweight (64kg) and qualify at that weight instead through a box-off.
He was never given that option and, forced to remain at lightweight, realised in the weeks leading up to Beijing he was not able to keep himself at the lightweight limit.
"I think I've more or less stopped growing now but I struggled at the World Championships last year and I asked for the box-off at the weight above (for the Olympics)," he explained.
"I think they should have given it to me because I'd been to two tournaments at the weight above, won them both, was ranked number one in the world before the Olympics at 64kg (light-welterweight) and I beat lads who beat the lad who had the Olympic place.
"I think I was number one at both weights and really I should have had the choice."
His decision to turn professional represents a major coup for Sports Network chief Warren, who told PA Sport: "We are nearly there. We've just got a few bits to sort out and hopefully next week we'll make it official.
"What happened at the Olympics was a great shame. He was world champion since the age of 17. I think he's won a medal in every international tournament he has been in.
"He has been a very successful amateur and I'm sure he would have come back from Beijing with a gold medal.
"Anyway, now he's moving on and hopefully he will go onto bigger and better things."

I don't know anything about Farnell as trainer. But as a fighter, he was hardly a fine technician, was he? I recall him being an exciting, but very basic slugger.

Can't see how it is relevant.
Current flavour of the month Roach was nothing but a journeyman in his boxing days - That doesn't seem to have affected his ability as a coach.

Sure, if he can show a sensitivity to other styles, bring out the best in his fighter. I'm not saying he can't. I don't know who he's trained before this. They seem to come from different galaxies, Farnell the slugger from the great Manc days and Gavin the amateur standout.
But it seems an odd a choice as Harrison training Khan just from a stylistic standpoint.
Harrison, who produces well schooled, compact, calm pressure fighters. Seeing Khan - fast, mobile - race in like some kind of hyper slugger and be vulnerable to straight rights...was a strange sight.
Speaking of Roach. Helped that he had an apprenticeship under Eddie Futch! One of Roach's fighters, the speedy & mobile Virgil Hill, also ended up in a weird trainer situation. He was trained by Johnny Lewis for the first Frank Tate fight. This was a totally mismatched fighter/trainer setup, and this is what I keep thinking of.
Disclaimer - this is not to say trainers known for producing pressure fighters can't develop mobile slick fighters. i.e. Joe Gallagher with the two Murray bros as an example of 2 who have done very well with totally different styles.

Good luck with it anyway.
Seen a few Farnell fights and seen some Gavin and you couldn't get 2 different types. That doesn't mean it won't work. Looking forward to seeing how Frankie adapts to the pros.

Wow, great response but the showings of the fighters speak volumes on the type of trainer you are or in this case the type of trainer your NOT.
All in good time my friend!!!

It is my firm belief when a fighter with talent goes into the professional ranks - the first thing he must learn is how to live the life of a professional boxer - he must get to learn what it takes to get to the very top.
Lets face it - if nothing else in his years as a boxer there was no better at dedication to training than Farnell - he absolutely lived the life of a fighter and it was down to his dedication that I am sure he will not mind me stating he over achieved to a degree - Gavin needs that dedication to achieve and he needs to know the bloke who is training him has been there and done it.
With regards to the technical aspects - give Farnell a chance - lets see what happens - for me Farnells biggest problem will not be the technical side of things but it will be ensuring Frankie Gavin has the discipline to do everything that is required outside the ring.

Now that last post made great sense!! Teddy you talk rubbish..Angelo Dundee never had a bout in his life yet what's up with him?? Billy Graham produced Ricky Hatton yet couldn't fight his way out of a wet echo?? If Frankie can take Arnie's dedication and work ethic then he can become a fantastic fighter!! He also has other fantastic prospects such as Bellew,Selkirk and Crolla..
Ask yourself this, Do you think F.W would allow his latest (and most expensive) talent under the tutelage of some one who doesn't know what there doing?? First if all he requested Bellew be trained by farnell and now he recommends him to Frankie!! Frankie already has skill in abundance,That is not an issue,He now needs the correct work ethic installing in him and the right man for that is obviously Farnell in F.W's opnion and let's be honest he very rarely get's it wrong does he!!
Farnell has very different training techniques and also has a strength & Conditioner on board too, Plus a nutri man too!! His facilities are second to none and Im sure given time you'll see him produce some quality fighters!!

Everton - but wasn't Frank wrong with Oliver Harrison? Harrison got dropped. Harrison got slagged off by the Khan camp afterward so someone must think FW was wrong. (If something goes wrong, the star fighter is never wrong, and the promoter is never wrong. The trainer is always wrong!)
Not saying Harrison isn't good - he's turned out some excellent fighters - but was a man who produces compact aggressors suited to Khan's quicksilver amateur style? Something didn't seem to gel, surely, with Khan reckless and open to right hands (only Limond good enough to take the opening).
(Admittedly, they put Khan with Powell, and then Khan gets dropped by the left hook, and then the Cuban, when Khan gets flattened - so is it just Khan who's not absorbing the lessons of his trainers? But this brings the question around, when will Amir find the right trainer, who can bring the best out of him, 3 years into his career?)
I'm just trying to point out some of the slight fighter/trainer mixes that don't mix so well. Wasn't there Billy Graham and Macklin as well, with Macklin jumping on opponents and grunting with loaded up body shots ala Hatton... which got him in trouble in a certain fight of the year.
