Just looking at britishboxing.net noticed Hull legend came out of retirement and won by retirement, anyone got any news on this, not really shocking news as Christmas is on the way, sure Tony thought he would pick up some easy money

Buckley to follow?

Given Buckley's win he's probably WBU mandatory now. Can he really pass up such an opportunity?

Booth won't retire yet. I expect it will be on/off for a while before he enters the ring for the final time.

I am not out of retirement because I officially retire on the 13th November when my medicals run out.

They billed the Hull Show as the last one as it was near to my date.

Last night was one last favour, if another one comes up before the 13th I may take it but after that there will definitely be no more, anybody can check with the BBBC if you don't believe me!

I know some of you may find it hard to believe but it isn't always about the money. I started boxing at the age of 10 and I didn't get paid then did I!

It will be hard to give up. Like any sportsman, ask all those with broken legs in the veteran football teams!

Crack addiction is a horrible thing and if he is boxing again hopefully he is clean. Nicky Booth was always good value - if only he could learn to box a bit more because he was a tough little so and so. I remember him giving a young Steve Molitor a few problems.

Tony Booth, arent you Tony Blairs father in law? You should have retired years ago. sorry mate, I know who you are really.

Jason Rowland & I took Duncan Cottier up to Glasgow for this show and we were very proud to be asked to work Tony's corner for this, his final fight. As Tony explained, he got this job in, just prior to the expiration of his medicals.

The lad Tony boxed was a debutant and to be fair, must've wondered what was going on when Tony stood right in front of him and began slipping, parrying and blocking as though showing his opponent the true meaning of "hit and not be hit".

At the end of the first, as he sat on his stool, I came to the conclusion that all I needed to do was give him a drink and wipe him down. There was nothing I, or Jason could say to him that he didn't already know.

Rowland made the point (As I'm sure others have) that if only he had been involved with Tony earlier, things may have turned out differently.

You're only as good as your last fight and I think that back to back wins for this terrific servant to the business are no more than his endevours deserve. He had the crowd eating out of his glove with the Ali shuffle and the funny faces. He kept them entertained afterwards in the bar too, signing copies of his book, "Boxing Booth" (Tony gave me a copy and signed it to me. It's a cracking read and is quite thought provoking. I recommend it as an addition to any true fight followers collection).

As a relative newcomer to the business, I'd like to say many thanks, Tony, for allowing me to play a very small part in your career.

Superb post Richard. Tony on his day is a good fighter. The record books will show he lost to Crawford Ashley in a British title, tilt, but for a few rounds an upset was on the cards, and of course be beat Omar Sheika (I think)

He has some terrific tales to tell especially of his time with Nigel Benn in Tenerife
