A lot of the forum will remember one of the nicest people to ever grace the sport of boxing passing away last year - Lee Gostolo.

Indeed some people from this forum went to Lee's funeral and those attending will probably never forget his little lad Mitchell standing up in front of everyone to read out a poem in memory of his dad - it certainly brought tears to my eyes.

I remember then a little while later little Mitchell following me around whilst I did my job on the Woods/Gonzalez show at Sheffield Arena - bless him, Mitchell did not realise it was down to how kind his dad was, teaching me what was required behind the scenes at a boxing show why I have been so lucky to be involved in so many big shows - I will always remember Lee and will always be grateful - when others did not want to know, Lee always gave me the time of day and was always patient and kind - he even took time to discuss boxing with my son.

The reason why I started this thread is - life moves along so quickly - you have one life and thus you have to make the most of it - I simply cannot believe it is now a year since Lee passed away - but what is so refreshing is that I received a call this weekend from a member of this forum - a charity function in memory of Lee will be taking place at the end of November and I believe the proceeds are going towards Lees favourite charity - I say refreshing because it is fantastic to know people like Lee Gostolo will never be forgotten.

To the guy who phoned - You know who you are - and respect to you mate - see you soon!!!

nice words spud, lee was indeed a lovely man, always smiling behind his 'fake' tan .. ;;-)

for those who do not know lee was struck down by the dreaded carcinoma of the pancreas, a silent but swift killer in that area.

does anyone have a pic of lee they could put up on here, would be lovely to see his smiling face again...

Event is taking place on 26-11-08.
It's a low key affair, just a do with a live band on, but it would be a shame if Lee's Charitable work wasn't continued.

Been at bit busy of late, and think I should mention due to a problem with the venue, the event has been put back 7 days to 03-12-08.
I've now got Ryan and Johnny fully involved, and hopefully we'll raise a few quid for Lee's favourite charity.

Cheers mate - on its way - in fact just going to the loft to see if there are a couple of bits for you!!!

I will try my best mate and as discussed will post on Saturday as that will be my first chance - I would be absolutely horrified if I could not make a significant contribution to any cause Lee supported - Lee did so much for me and as you could see on Saturday night mate - I missed the fella!!!

My funniest memory of Lee.
I didn't get a ticket for a Johanneson fight at Leeds City Hall but turned up thinking tickets would still be available.
It was a sell out.
Lee saw me at the door and got me in.
As we went into the area near the dressing rooms, the bouncer starts to show Lee the door, and waves me through.
Lee was miked up at the time with his pass around his neck etc.
All got sorted, and as usual, Lee always found the funny side.
I miss him not just through boxing but as a mate generally.
Lee did a lot of charity work over the years - often unsung work.
This small event is just a way of a few of us trying to say that Lee's work is not forgotten.

Nice post that mate - All I remember is the words of little Mitchell at the Woods/Gonzalez fight after Lee passing away - they will stick with me for the rest of my days - what a brave little lad - and who will ever forget him standing up in front of hundreds of people at his dads funeral.

Lee for me is up there with the very best people I have met in boxing - another character who I loved to chat to and for me was a character through and through was Ernie Fossie who passed away a couple of years ago - he was matchmaker for F rank Warren - liked him a lot too.

Just to let you know, the final figure raised is a touch over £3000.
Given the time of year, the impact of the credit crunch etc all of the organisers are happy with this.
Nice to be able to do something positive but at the same time remember one of nicest guys from boxing.
