Macklin wants either Elcock or Asikainen early next year, and insists he can beat both of them.

Elcock yes, Asikanienen no.

I like his confidence although I give him no chance at all against Abraham or Pavlik and only a slim one against Asikainen, it would be good to see him get the opportunities to back up his ambition.

Cracking division we've got at domestic level. Macklin could well be the best of the lot, if anyone is better it could be Barker. I think they both beat Elcock

Macklin is ambitious and that is good to see but for me his lack of hand and foot speed will let him down in the elite ranks.

I would love to see him box both Elcock and McDermott in battles of Brum (and Black Country) but, for the time being at least, I think his focus is on more lofty goals..

Wasn't that impressed with Macklin's performance last week and even less impressed with his bad mouthing of Elcock and Barker afterwards I get the impression Macklin's got a very inflated opinion of himself. In his two title attempts so far he's failed, a close one with Facey and a very conclusive knockout to Moore.

Ofcourse Elcock and Barker aren't boxing the likes of Ajetovic They're title holders looking to defend against British of Commonwealth challengers!

Why slag boxers from other camps that he might be unlikely to box (becuase of his promoter!, not theirs) when he's got perfectly good fights that could be made with Smith or McDermott?

quite, don't know he's bothering to mention Elcock's name. The fighter will never happen as long as Elcock is a Hennessey fighter.

Ref: Elcock - Wasn';t he asked the Q by the interviewer? I read it as the interviewer asked him, rather than he stated the fact. I think any bloke would say that he's going to beat the champ - or else, what's the point?

He mentions that he hasn't seen much of Abrahams - it sometimes amazes me how some pro's don't seem to have an interest in other boxers in their division - I've got every one of Abrahams fights since Eastman.

Interesting point about the EU - Was this vacated by Sylvester at the weekend after he fought Strum?

He's beat Elcock now but he's Euro title challenger level at best IMO.

That said, good luck to him...

I like Macklin's attitude. Although, he's looking more and more bashed up the better the level of his competition gets. There's some good domestic fights around. I'd pick him over both Midlands rivals and the Barker fight is a pick 'em for me. The one I'd like to see is against Thirlwall. That's be a real punch-up!

Is Thirlwall still fighting? Only 19 fights since he turned over six years ago

While Macklin is a decent fighter, you have to appreciate he has been well looked after and has fallen short when it has mattered, at very best he may get a domestic title if matched against one of the weaker boys at that level.
He wouldn´t beat a prime Elcock but he possibly may come good if the Wayne has slipped

Re: Thirlwell. I think he is spending more time with other things than boxing. I know his brother got into doing weights rather than boxing and I think Matthew might have followed suit. Shame, because I really thought he'd win some titles in the pro's. He was awesome the year he stormed to his ABA title.

Thirlwell-Macklin would have been a belter for sure.

I like Macklin's ambition and I think he has a great chance of beating Elcock if they were to meet (providing Elcock gets past Jason "Cool Hand" McKay). However, I doubt he has enough to better Asikainen who on his day is very good.

I have to agree with all you have said and I honestly cant see Macklin getting to the top.
