Silver Gloves Results?
I know that California had some Silver Gloves District matches already and I've heard that there are at least a few 2008 National Champions that have lost at the District Level. I know you go from Districts to States to Regionals to Nationals if you are from CA, but can anyone give me any idea on how many times a boxer must win to get out of Southern or Northern CA to Missouri. I was just curious about the numbers because I know that from year to year, some of the nations best don't make it out of the early rounds of the CA Silver Gloves.
If someone can give me the break down - that would be great. Also, I can't find results ANYWHERE. Thanks in advance. . .and no, Mel, we don't sleep on the east coast.

Re: Silver Gloves Results?
DC - Sorry, but I don't post the Silver Gloves district results. If I did the So. Cal, I'd have to do the entire US and I just don't have the time and fingers for that massive a job. The State of California is one franchise. California has 4 LBCs. Each LBC has it's own local tournament that sends its winners to the State tournament (December 6 & 7). The winners of the State advance to the Regional (6 states - first weekend after Jan. 1st).
I only worked one ring at our Districts so I don't have all your names, but I can tell you who I remember (I probably missed a few) losing in MY ring that was a national champion in 2008: Moises Orozco and Rahim Gonzalez.

Silver Gloves Results
Gotcha. So, the local tournaments (districts) that determine the 4 LBC champions may have to be done over a period of many weeks depending on the number of entries? The numbers have to be just massive - especially if they've already started for the Dec. 6th tournament.boxmel wrote:DC - Sorry, but I don't post the Silver Gloves district results. If I did the So. I would imagine it would be a huge task for one person to post all results, but I figured the LBCs may post results. I just couldn't find anything. I heard about Mo and Rahim. I also heard that Chris Picos and Zebastyan Ulloa lost. I saw Picos box at the Silver Gloves last year. It is amazing how competitive some of the areas in the US are at this level. You see a boxer one year that you just know can't be beat and they don't make it the following year. I was talking to Joe Zander last year and I think he told me that there have been a couple of boxers that won the National Silvers 4 or 5 times. I can't remember exactly who, but that's very impressive. The only boxers that I know of personally that has done that are Domonic Wade (03-006) and Tremaine Williams (05-08 with 2nd in 04) who both won 4 consecutive years in a row. I heard that there has been one boxer to win 6 years, but again, I don't know that for sure.
If anyone finds any information on any Silver Gloves Results from any state, please post in this thread. I'll do the same.

Re: Silver Gloves Results?
So the local tournaments (districts) that determine the 4 LBC champions may have to be done over a period of many weeks depending on the number of entries?
No. Each LBC usually only has one or two days - So. Cal. has the most boxers so our tournament this year ran Friday night, Saturday and Sunday with two rings. San Diego (Cal Border) only had 2 tournament bouts - the rest of their team were unopposed. This is generally the way it will be for Central and Northern, too.
-The numbers have to be just massive
Nope - just us and we had a record turnout this year - go figure!
but I figured the LBCs may post results.
Most LBCs wouldn't have a clue on how to unless they have a web site and those with web sites probably will post their local results.
.I also heard that Chris Picos and Zebastyan Ulloa lost
With two rings, we didn't have enough judges for 5 on each ring and ran 3. Chris lost on a 2/1. So did Manual Robles. I think Ulloa was in the other ring - I don't remember seeing his bout (I was doing the timekeeping and jurying on mine).
and I think he told me that there have been a couple of boxers that won the National Silvers 4 or 5 times.
Danny Romero from New Mexico (Region 8) was one - maybe the only one - I think he won 6 times.
Maybe if you are VERY nice to me, I'll post the state and regional results - MAYBE.

Re: Silver Gloves Results?
Ah, yes. Let the talking begin! Ok, we get it. "Region 8! Region!" Oh, how I look forward to Missouri. It was funny how day one they separated all the regions onto the bleechers and R8 and R3 looked like two competing choirs -then we ended up looking like a quartet! To be fair, how many boxers do you have in R8? A couple hundred thousand? :LOLMaybe if you are VERY nice to me, I'll post the state and regional results - MAYBE.D Just to give you an idea how Region 8 wins the team trophy year after year after year.....
D
Re: Silver Gloves Results?
I heard about that. Only problem is - the other Regions really don't like us! I've even heard the only reason we win is because we take a whole bunch of officials back to the nationals - people are really stoopid!Ah, yes. Let the talking begin! Ok, we get it. "Region 8! Never counted - sounds about right.to be fair, how many boxers do you have in R8? A couple hundred thousand? :LOL

Re: Silver Gloves Results?
Well, maybe if you let someone else win the team title for once . . . I enjoy talking with all the boxer and coaches from Region 8 and all the other regions. Really enjoyed speaking with Joe Zanders and I've met some great young boxers from Long Beach, L.A., Indio and Coachella that I can remember. I've gotten pretty familiar with a lot of the coaches and boxers and to be quite honest - Region 8's boxers are always very polite, approachable and well behaved at all the national tournaments when I've seen them. Can't say that for everyone. Now, in the ring, that's a whole other subject - in the ring, they are a problemboxmel wrote:I heard about that. Only problem is - the other Regions really don't like us! Your region is very well-represented with the officiating, but it's not like officials from other regions aren't welcome - they just don't go (for any number of reasons). I can also say that for the most part the boxer who should have won did win (hmm, where have I heard that before?) I didn't have a major problem with the judging and I've been out there about 4 or 5 times.
On the other note - Mel, can you please, please, please post the State and Regional Results? If it will help, if you scan it and send it to me via email, I'll type it up and email it back you can post.
Re: Silver Gloves Results?
Okay - I'll tell the regional winners to NOT get the team trophy this year......Well, maybe if you let someone else win the team title for once . . .
Thanks - our kids are generally wonderful and a good group.Region 8's boxers are always very polite, approachable and well behaved at all the national tournaments when I've seen them.
Yeah - they do know how to box!!Now, in the ring, that's a whole ther subject - in the ring, they are a problem

I was actually being sarcastic with that statement, however it has been said. At the most we only send 3 officials and it's usually only 1. My husband went last year. And they don't work Region 8 bouts. I haven't worked a national Silver Gloves since 1989 - maybe I'll see if I can go one year.
Yeah - I might put them on my website and put a link up. But thanks for the offer. May or may not take you up on it - I'll let you know.On the other note - Mel, can you please, please, please post the State and Regional Results? I'll get our results up too. We start this weekend. Pete fought at 90lbs. at the Ringside in August, but I thought that he would have been stronger at a higher weight.
