spoiler alert...mundine pintos

Post by adamheight »

how the fcuk did one judge have it 100-88? there were NO knockdowns and no round was a 10-8 round by any stretch of the imagination.

nb: on a side note, mundine looked terrible tonight...he has no power left

Perhaps Mundine is another case of a guy thinking that a move down in weight will make him stronger can anyone say Chris Byrd?

I think Mundine should have stayed at Super-Middle he was stronger there not having to bust his ass trying to get down to the Middleweight limit. Its a catch 22 situation cutting weight to try make a lighter division as stated above you can actually make yourself weaker, and in Mundines case given his build he doesnt have Alot of fat to loose hed be cutting muscle and thats not good.

What were the other undercard resultds?

How funny were the ads on Main Event "AND PEOPLE STILL SAY THE MAN FACES EASY OPPONENTS"

Mundine has completely blown it, he has nothing left, is 33 years old and has no ability to get any major fights any more. It's sad because he had the talent to be a great boxer but instead he pissed it away fighting bums for easy PPV dollars.

Also, what the hell was the talk on the ad of this being his next step on the road to the middleweight title. Wasn't this a SMW bout? And not even close to being a step to any title except maybe the WBF?

I was wondering the exact same thing. The bout was at SuperMiddle so Mundine still hasn't even fought at Middleweight! There was talk in an article this morning as well...

Anthony Mundine dominated another outgunned opponent and remained on course for a middleweight boxing world title fight with a unanimous 10-round points win over Uruguayan Rafael Sosa Pintos tonight.

The 33-year-old Sydneysider controlled the bout with his faster hands was rarely troubled by the South American.

The three judges gave Mundine the win by scores of 99-91, 100-91 and 100-88.

Pintos, who had won 31 of his previous 33 fights offered little in offence through the early rounds, though he did appear to wobble Mundine in the sixth.

The Australian produced a number of his trademark combinations through the fight, but the tough Uruguayan absorbed the blows and sometimes beckoned Mundine to have another go.

Mundine slipped to the canvas early in the 10th round, but it wasn't the result of a punch from the durable South American who ended the fight marked under the left eye.

Mundine is the second ranked contender to Germany's WBA middleweight world champion Felix Sturm.

Rising cruiserweight star Jamie Withers scored the most significant win of his professional career and improved his record to 11-0 by winning all six rounds on each of the judges' scorecards against former WBO world title contender Mohamed Azzaoui.

Before the main fight, newly crowned IBF Pan Pacific youth and WBO Asian Pacific super featherweight champion Ahmed Elomar was presented with the belts he couldn't receive last Friday due to the violent scenes following his first round knockout of Willie Kickett in Gosford.

Presented with his belts by former super bantamweight world title contender Nedal Hussein, Elomar said he had already got a number of offers including one for an IBF world title fight.

The Boxing Authority of NSW will later this week review the violent incidents at the Central Coast Leagues Club.

Mundine praised his game opponent for his defence and said that was one of the reasons why he chose Pintos.

"I hit him with a few good uppercuts and stuff but I couldn't get them through to the sweet spot,'' Mundine said.

He said he wasn't disappointed at not stopping his opponent.

"At the end he was starting to get desperate and desperate guys do desperate things. When I'm in the firing range, you might get tagged yourself, so you've got to be smart.''

Mundine said his intention was to reign in the middleweight division and fight some of the best in the world, and thought tonight's bout would hold him in good stead for the bigger contests.

I still think Mundine should have stayed at super middle. He was a world champion at that weight, why on earth did he let Roy Jones Senior talk him into relinquishing his title and dropping to middleweight?

It does not make sense.

Even blind freddy could see it was simply a front for not wanting to face mandatory challenger Kessler.

Makes plenty of sense. Simply didnt want to fight him.

I cant believe people actually watch these fights. Please tell me your not paying for them! Please.

i happened to go out to dinner last night at late notice and we happened to go to the only club in Geelong showing the fight. I snuck in 3 times to see undercard fights and there was a grand total of 3 punters between 2 large rooms showing the fight. I tracked down manager and this was their last attempt to promote the main event ppv show. :shame:

must admit the only reason i knew club had it on was catching sight of big screen with fights on and staying until i knew what show it was. i hope some of these pubs/clubs that have it on dont primarily depend on foxsports website for promoting event. and its not just mundines shows that i'm referring to. :box:
