This thread has to be revived from time-to-time, & the Hagler-Antuofermo discussion has ignited it. What've you got, gents? Let's chew some of that fat...

Leonard-Hagler: Leonard, 2 Points

De La Hoya-Sturm: Sturm, 2 Points

Casamayor-Cruz: Cruz, 2 Points

Freitas-Casamayor: Casamayor, 1 Point (Often forgotten)

Mayweather-Castillo I: Draw (I suspect people want Mayweather to lose so badly, they really go after any close fight)

Hearns-Leonard II: Hearns, 3 Points

De La Hoya-Quartey: Draw

De La Hoya-Whitaker: De La Hoya, 1 Point

Lewis-Mercer: Lewis, 3 Points (Didn't really see the controversy, myself)

Mosley-De La Hoya II: De La Hoya, 4 Points (This one doesn't get enough attention --- it was a clearer robbery than De La Hoya-Trinidad, with less attention :x )

Trinidad-De La Hoya: De La Hoya, 2 Points (This generation's Leonard-Hagler)

I don't know. Is that one controversial, though? It doesn't get much argument. Some, but not much. Still, it was close. I guess this fight could be used to establish the minimum for controversy. I had it for Calzaghe by two, in any event :TU:

Hagler-Leonard - A draw or a slight edge to Leonard.

DLH-Sturm - Sturm by anywhere from 2 to 4 points. Definite bad decision.

Casamayor-Cruz - Hard to score IMO, but I felt Cruz deserved it for his aggression.

Freitas-Casa - 1-2 point win for Freitas.

Mayweather-Castillo - 2 point win for Castillo, could possibly have been a draw.

Hearns-Leonard II - Hearns by 2-4 points.

DLH-Quartey - Draw or close win for Quartey. A bit questionable decision.

DLH-Whitaker - 2-3 point win for DLH.

Lewis-Mercer - Close win for Lewis, could've possibly been a draw or gone the other way.

Mosley-DLH II - 2-3 point edge to DLH. Might've been close enough to be a draw, but no way Mosley won it IMO.

Tito-DLH - Either a draw or a close win for DLH. Questionable decision.

Ali-Young - Young by 2-4 points.

Ali-Norton III - Norton by 3 or 4 points.

Whitaker-Chavez - Whitaker by 2-4 points.

Whitaker-Ramirez - Whitaker by 2 or 3 points, but possibly close enough to be a draw. (The one-sided scores for Ramirez were bullsh*t, however).

I thought the first two-thirds of the fight were close and hard to score. Obviously, Calzaghe was the aggressor, while Hopkins landed the cleaner/harder (but much less frequent) punches.

However, I thought Calzaghe took over the fight in the final rounds, and I felt that should've given him the edge at the end.

Hagler-Leonard -- Leonard, two points

Hearns-Leonard II -- Hearns, two points

Duran-Barkley -- Barkley, two points (I know, I know)

Lewis-Oldyfield II -- Commander Vander by a couple, but I was wankered when I scored it

DLH-Quartey -- Quartey, two points

DLH-Whitaker -- DLH, one point

Castillo-Mayweather I -- Mayweather, two points

Castillo-Mayweather II -- draw

Barrera-Morales I -- Morales, one point

Barrera-Morales II -- Barrera, two points

They're the ones that stick with me the most. I scored both Marquez-Pacquiao fights for the Mexican, but had the distinctly queasy feeling that Manny was going to get the decision both times -- you know, that pre-scores jitter you feel when you feel that there should only be one outcome, but nonetheless you know you're about to see something a little... odd?

Even worse than when it's a really close fight where you've no idea who won, imo...

Actually, now that I think about it, all of those fights were so close they could have gone either way. Boxing is at times utterly definitive ("...Ten & out!") & at others so subjective it resembles some kind of ultra-postmodern performance art piece.

Barthes should have written that book about pro boxing scoring & judging, not fecking wrestling.

since this was on HBO 2 last night and this morning.

Quartey 115 De La Hoya 112

You have to be big on Oscar's nuts to score this for Oscar

2 giant pieces of turd !!!!!! :box:
Ken Morita 116-112 for Oscar
John Keane 116-113 for Oscar

at least Larry O'Connell had a little nuts 114-115 for Quartey

Leonard-Hagler: Leonard, 2 Points

De La Hoya-Sturm: Sturm, 2 Points

Casamayor-Cruz: Cruz, 2 Points

Freitas-Casamayor: Freitas, 3 Point (I dont see the controversy. Casa had some decent middle rounds but Freitas totally outboxed him early and then broke him in half with bodyshots late.)

Mayweather-Castillo I: Castillo 2 or 3 points easy.

Hearns-Leonard II: Hearns, 3 Points

De La Hoya-Quartey: Draw

De La Hoya-Whitaker: De La Hoya, 2 Points

Lewis-Mercer: Mercer, 1 Point

Mosley-De La Hoya II: Mosely 2 Points

Trinidad-De La Hoya: De La Hoya, 2 Points I always have to add a asteriks with this one. I thought on points DLH won clearly, easy fight to score but, BUT the last three or four rounds he did absolutely nothing and so he should have either been disqualified or lost. Period. People (me being one of them) paid a shitload of money for that fight, you dont just run out the clock. In the old days had a fighter run like that for several rounds he would have been thrown out. It was a disgrace and Im glad he lost and thats coming from someone who was rooting for him.[/quote]

Leonard-Hagler-Leonard, 2 points, and I'm a big Hagler fan

Oscar-Sturm-Sturm, 2 points . . coulda been a draw though.

Never saw Cruz-Casamayor

Mayweather-Castillo-Castillo 3 points

Oscar-Quartey-Quartey by a point, I had the same scorecard as Lederman. The KD in the 12th was too little too late.

Oscar-Whitaker-Draw . . .really, does that hand grazing the canvas deserve to give Pea a 2 point round?? No.

Lewis-Mercer-Mercer 2 points . . Ray sealed it by winning the last two rounds.

Tito-Oscar- Oscar by 2 points

Some others:

Holyfield-Lewis II: Holyfield by a point

Pacquao-Marquez II-Pac by a point

Pac-Marquez 1-Pac by a few points (don't remember my final score but Pac won some of the later rounds to seal the big lead he had at the beginning . . .the argument that Marquez won 'every round' after the first two is hogwash, and Marquez is my favorite active fighter.

Ellis-Patterson: Ellis by 4 points. One of the most over-rated 'robberies' in boxing history . . .Patterson has a few big rounds and closes strong, but does nothing most of the fight and Ellis wins via greater activity.

Ali-Norton III-Norton by at least 4 rounds.

DF> I agree with all of the matches you listed...except I had some minor variations.

I had Holy-Lewis II as a draw...but in 1999 I had it 2 points Holy.
Mercer-Lewis a draw and in another sitting 1 point mercer.
Ellis-Patterson.....I had for Patterson by 2 or 3 points. I disagree that
it is an over rated robbery.

I had Holyfield beating Lewis by one point in the rematch. I also think Patterson kicked the shit out of Ellis by a good 3 or 4 points. Easy to score. Patterson was absolutely robbed, thankfully most of the press at the time agreed. I think anyone who watches that fight and scores for Ellis is either biased or crazy as a shithouse rat.

145-141 (Holmes-Norton) doesn't quite add up right. Do you mean 144-141 Holmes?

I think your scores (of the fights you listed I've seen) are nicely done.

Very much disagree, Patterson by 4 points at least. Ellis may have been more active (although not by much imo) but all the meaningful punches were landed by Patterson. Patterson was robbed of a knockdown as well.
