Floyd snr may have to quit!

Ricky Hatton's trainer Floyd Mayweather Senior has revealed he may have to quit because of ill health.

Mayweather has a lung disease called sarcoidosis, which he says has got worse over the last few years.

The dusty, dry heat of Las Vegas worsens his condition and he has returned home to Michigan to convalesce following his seven-week training camp with Hatton for his fight with Paulie Malignaggi.

Mayweather, 55, coughs every few seconds and after trying to treat his condition with steroids, now uses herbal remedies and ointments.

"It's tough and I don't see me carrying on for another two years," he said. "If you don't find something that works for you, you're going to have a bad day. It can attack you at any time. I'm training these fighters and exercise is good. But it seems the more I exercise, the worse my lungs get."

But in better news for Hatton, Mayweather claims his son Floyd Junior could be tempted out of retirement to have a rematch with the Hitman.

Floyd Junior watched Hatton's impressive win over Malignaggi on TV and Mayweather claims it is only a matter of time before he announces his return to the ring.

Mayweather is estranged from his son but said: "I believe he'll be back next year. All that stuff with my son? Everybody should just sit back and relax. Everything is going to manifest itself."

Floyd Junior's adviser Leonard Ellerbe believes he could be lured back by the prospect of another huge pay-day against Hatton. He collected his biggest purse of over £20million for their fight last December.

Ellerbe, who was at ringside at the MGM Grand on Saturday, said: "Floyd said Hatton was a totally different fighter under his father. I haven't talked to Hatton and I don't know if Floyd is even interested. But it's my responsibility to pass that on to him."
First I've heard of Floyd snr having such a disease. I wish him well. For a guy of his age, I always thought Floyd looked to be in good shape, but you just never know do you? You would have thought the more he exercised, the better the condition might become, no the opposite way around!

Ricky needs to knuckle down because judging by this article, Floyd may not have any choice but to stop training fighters before too long!

A disease related to crack pipe use? Or a bargaining chip to get higher pay from Hatton? I just can't decide

Winehouse has Emphysema , which attacks the lungs, and is a progessive disease, which means she's not in a good condition, my Grandad had the same disease and struggled to walk the length of the room for a few years before dying.

How the feck does a young 20something get Emphysema, ok crack....I wouldnt be suprised if this is what Snr has.....My parents next door neighbour has Emphysema as a 60yo from many years of smoking, the doctors told him there is no point in stopping smoking as his lungs are ruined already, what a stupid thing to tell him, if he stopped smoking and built up some light cardiovascular work his lungs would get stronger

Depends what level of Emphysema the old guy has, it could be so severe that the doctors think it wouldn't add anything to his life if he gave up.

My grandad had the disease from when he was 55 till he died at 75, when he first got diagnosed he was to bad, just breathless if he did to much, but over the last 10 years of his life it really kicked in. The thing with the disease is it effects all the family, as everything has to be run around the person suffering.

I was surprised that Winehouse got it at such an early age.

Well he is pretty much screwed and needs 1 of those breathing machines I think, can't work but can still walk the 1/4 mile to the pub. I don't really consider 60 as 'old', you can still be in pretty decent shape at 60, my dad's the same age, is a bit overweight and drinks but is in top nicker

My grandad was the same... it last less with him - from about 70 - 80. The last 2 years were terrible.

I personally don't think Amy has it, only her Father - who is a attention seeking so and so himself - is saying it.

Suppose it will give Ricky an excuse for the next time he changes trainers - 'Floyd can't hold the pads anymore so had to get someone who could as it was affecting my game'.

My mum has this. It's can be bad at times but I wouldn't have thought it would stop him passing on knowledge.
