Woods in world title eliminator
Sheffield's Clinton Woods will fight Elvir Muriqi in a world title eliminator at the end of December, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.
The bout will the be the 36-year-old light-heavyweight's first since losing his IBF crown to Antonio Tarver in April this year.
Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson said: "If Clinton wins he'll be in prime position to fight for a world title.
"Clinton looks fresh and has a point to prove," Hobson added.

Is Woods not fighting for the European title now?
Or is he fighting for that as well?

Flipping heck, the IBF already has a mandatory. Can't they wait till Tavoris Cloud gets his shot before all this?

The IBF are mandatory maniacs - I wouldn't expect anything less from them. Soon enough we will have the merry go round of Woods, Johnson, Gonzalez and that Aussie Bloke fighting for the title once again!

Even If Woods wins as soon as he fights another American, he will let him win.

Due to the FBI rumbling them a few years ago they're forced to do everything by the book. So they enforce all mandatories on time, and make sure mandatories are always in place. It's impossible for an IBF champion to fit in 2 voluntaries in a row nowdays, if not for the 3 other organisations weakening the IBF's rankings this would actually work as a very good system.

What did he do to deserve this?

He was the IBF champion for 3 years, and has only just lost the belt.

There was a rumour a month ago that he would skip the Euro shot and go straight into the IBF fight. Guess it was more than just a rumour.
Congrats to the bloke. I hope we get to see this on TV.

A couple of months ago I suggested Woods might go for an IBF elim and all I got was "Dawson will kill him, he'll let Dawson beat him, he won't go anywhere near Dawson, he wants nothing to do with Dawson".

I suppose but the thing is because they are now so afraid of the FBI they make no allowances - such as stripping Malignaggi for facing Hatton. And stripping Hatton twice! I mean how ludicrous is that! Surely they should extent their deadlines for facing mandatories as its getting a bit ridiculous with champions getting stripped left right and centre and guys who are undeserving getting straight shots at a vacant title.

He'll let him win? He had no choice against Roy Jones, he was outclassed.
Who else? He beat and drew with Johnson.
I like Woods but he's had his day. I still think he'd win this fight though - just.
I don't want to say much because the usual Sheffield posters will complain that I hate all Sheffield fighters again!
.....which I don't, I just tells it like it is

Let him win? Or get outboxed?
Tarver Is a terrible fighter and Woods wasn't hurt and there was a lack of trying.
Tarver was talking all kinds of bollocks like calling Woods a hand picked opponent and then going on about how pretty his malteser face Is and Woods still let Taver own him.
Woods Is a decent counter puncher and can brawl too, Muruqi did better against Tarver.

He's not terrible IMO, just an annoying pudendum with a poor workrate.
What's his face got to do with it!?

I'd reallly like to see Woods in with Julio Gonzalez again

I think he's retired as well.
Woods should have Muriqui. M's aggressive, and should play into Woods. Could be a fairly bruising fight. If Cloud opts to postpone a challenge to Dawson, then Clinton will be going to America to fight a lefty - again. At least Dawson's more aggressive than Tarver, and could leave his chin out there - it's an outside chance, but CW might land &hurt Chad at some point. Let's see what he has left vs Muriqui.
I really suspected Clinton would go the old IBF route again.

The IBF f#cking love Clinton Woods, you'd have to put a slug in his chest to permanently remove him from IBF contention, its reminscent of the WBA's similarly confusing love affair with John Ruiz. They both sort of compete in a parallel boxing universe thats completely seperate from the actual top fighters fighting the other top fighters.

Yeah, if Julio Gonzalez was still fighting, and if Reggie Johnson hadn't disappeared from boxing again, they would no doubt be entering some kind of elim. Probably vs someone like Montell Griffin or Clinton Woods.
