I think this would be an interesting Fight, Holmes has become one of the most underrated fighter along with Sonny liston IMO. I think that foreman is slightly overrated and at his best lacked stamina.

I Also have doubts about foreman's ablity to go the 15, against an opponent as seasoned as Holmes was

Holmes KO 14

If Jimmy Young could do it, so could Larry Holmes.

Holmes KO 12

True, Holmes chin was much better and he had more overall skills than Young. This will be a copycat of the second Shavers-Holmes fight. Holmes TKO 12.

I'm going to have to go with Holmes here.
Holmes took out Shavers who was a slugger like Foreman with a little more power and a little slower.
Holmes ring generalship/ illusive movement is underrated and I believe he would slow Foreman down with his great jab by moving after he threw it then start putting a right hand behind it.

Holmes W15.

In the 1970s, Holmes W15.

In the 1990s, Foreman W12.

The young Foreman was too easy to outbox and wasn't very smart in the ring; he was exposed on the first count by Young and on the second one by Ali. The old Foreman was a smarter fighter, and I feel like he retained a little bit more of his skills (though the old Holmes wasn't half-bad until right at the end).

It's too bad they never could make the fight happen, in either era. We had that long thread on why Duran and Pryor never fought, but to me, Foreman-Holmes is more unusual in that it never happened.

If they had met in '78 or '79, Holmes by UD, after surviving scary moments. Foreman would plod and eat that jackhammer jab but he might land a bomb as Shavers or Snipes did. Still, Holmes had the smarts and the grit to get out of trouble.

You can say that about anyone George fought. If he only landed that 1 punch.

No-one could knock out larry with 1 punch, Shavers found this out in their second fight. IMO Holmes has one, if not the greatest chin of all time.

I agree with the general thinking: Larry Holmes in the late 70s-early 80s would have been the winner; he had an amazing control of the fight, and his arms were a "moving wall"; then, it's obvious, with Foreman we can never exlude a win by ko.

About Holmes' chin and heart: absolutely great, I guess, considering we're talking about heavyweight division, where a godd punch can drop virtually anybody: let's look the two losses from Lennox Lewis and compare them with Holmes' Shavers & Snipes fights.

Good Points, as i have said when i created the thread, i think holmes would win. Great fighter.

The proverbial ? "If they were both in their prime", Holmes would have worn Big George out by excellent footwork and a jab akin to a Louisville Slugger. He would have had George completely out of gas by round 6, and would have stopped him around the 7th or 8th, IMHO. If this fight takes place after the rebirth of their respective careers, then I like Big George by a late round stoppage. But that's what's fun about about fighters that never met at the top of their game. Pure speculation on our part, but fun nevertheless. :)
