saturday night is a huge night for british boxing, froch challenges for world honours (bearing in mind i have been ringside for virtually all of frochs career) and pacman and DLH square up in the early hours. maccaroni might get a good 'hiding' and khan is back to stage 1 journeymen.

but.......

my daughter has organised her engagement dinner for the same evening, 2030 hours.....sit down meal ...bloody nora, what can i do ...... :(

Its not like your missing the wedding is it ,engagements come and go.

You're going to have to grin and bear it I'm afraid. She wont let you forget it if you don't. Set the video and Sky+, have a few drinks and tune in when you get back at midnight

Sky plus is your best friend and just watch a few hours later.

Be a good, loving father - offer to cook the food and have the dinner at your place.

Enjoy the engagement dinner. People are more important than boxing.

It will be a good time to cast doubt on her relationship, esp as her boyfriend is cheating on her, i'm quite willing to be called as a witness, and you will save a fortune on the wedding, a real win win situation

Pretend you don't approve of her choice in husband and say your not going in protest. Either that or your greatly angered at him not asking you for his daughters hand in marriage and your not going in protest. Or both of those AND you'll only come if they put boxing on at that venue. Either that or find out where the event is and arrange for them to have the boxing on at the party. Mighty incosiderate of your daughter choosing a boxing night for this, you should have a word

Watch some sitcoms from the 1980's, they should be full of ideas for situations like these.

As soon as you get there order a steak - extremely rare.....then at exactly 9.05pm start acting like Hatton has left hooked your liver - then make a dash for the bathroom....then 3 minutes later freedom is yours courtesy of an oscar-winning performance!

I think I've actually pulled this one off once - I kid you not!

Provoking an argument is good, so you can blame them for starting it.
Is the meal in a restaurant? Slip the fella a couple of quid and get him to ring you half an hour before saying they gotta cancel your booking.
You can then save the day by ordering in a chinese takeaway and bubbly and then u can watch it in the house

^ I think that's your best option if you want to see all the fights live. After all it's merely an engagement dinner, not the actual wedding.

That would be the worst scenario if he's hoping to watch it later without knowing the result, I can imagine, fake laughs and smiles at the dinner table, while hearing the fight from the tv , probably being watched by people who bugger all about boxing. Oh, I'll be watching from the comfert of my home DD

Get absolutely mullered on Friday night and upset every family member you can think of, not a soul will be speaking to you come Saturday leaving the path clear for an "engagement free" evening.

5pm Saturday, underpants on the head a pencil up each nostril and only use the word "wibble" - a boxing packed evening courtesy of captain blackadder.

You should sit your daughter down, explain that she should have checked with you before setting a date, as it clashes with a huge night of boxing.

Then move into serious mode and say "but for my daughter, boxing can wait".

You go to the party as planned, but escape to the toilet after 30 mins. You put your fingers down your throat and throw up all over your shirt and force yourself to hyperventilate.

You say that you have to go home to sleep it off and jump into the pre booked taxi which takes you back for an interuption free night of quality viewage.

There is always an alternative option. Go for it fella.
