What is happening with Choi? he's such a good, gutsy fighter that he deserves more exposure. The way in which he dismantled Matthews was brilliant.

Choi is a GREAT fighter and deserves to be higher imo, have you guys seen him fight? No one wants to fight him.

I don't deny he deserves a title shot, and wish him the best. The irony is that the WBO have suddenly acknowledged his existence...I wonder why???!

As for what's happening with him, his trainer said in an interview with Boxing Monthly that FW was trying to get him a title shot. But the report gave the impression that it was a frustrating wait...

Matthews was rated In the IBF before losing to Choi.

Disrespectful to a man who has earned his crust on small-hall shows in Oldham and took a fight with Matthews that I'm sure plenty of others passed on. He still has it to do even ranked 13 so although the politics of the promotion are wrong, I don't have a problem with it.

Black Sam: no disrespect to Choi intended--see earlier post. I wish him all the best, and have hoped he'd get a title shot for some time. The focus of my original post was on the politics, of course...

If you look at Choi's career - look at the guy he took on in his third fight!!!!

I don't class the WBO as a real title anyway, just look at their 130lb rankings and tell me it isn't a load of bullshit.

Featherweight is a weak division. Choi would be a credible world title challenger at that weight currently.

Read the posts before jumping on nh1, he is making a valid point about boxing politics not against Choi's credibility Also, why is he so inactive/ Why has Prescott not fought (or indeed been confirmed alive) since beating Khan? Sign them up with options to save face and then keep them on the shelf tactics or what?

Prescott was sold on, though I can't remember who to. I think Autobarn remembers.

Rumor has it he will fight next December 20th in Switzerland in the undercard of Hollyfield-Valuev.

Problem with it - high ranking or not.... good chance Choi will keep inactive and see his ranking gradually go up (by not fighting) and then have a mandatory shot, but be too rusty to do aswell as he might.

Note Enzo now, Nicky Cook before his fight with Luevano.

Problem for Choi is that he has no constituency, who are his supporters, who will buy tickets to watch his fight.

It's sad but true, but being good is not enough. Ali Nuumembe was another one, a great little fighter with tremendous pedigree, but outside of Glossop no following to speak of.

Guys like Choi and Jackson Asiku are too good for their own good, maybe if fighters like that could get matched against each other we wouldn't have this problem. Only thing is no one wants to see 2 foreign guys fight and I don't think either Asiku or Tsveenpurev have enough financial draw(as opposed to supporters, could they might have enough numerically) in their own countries to hold such a fight.

Wouldn't it be great if there was one of those rich oil tycoon types that you find all the time as owner of a football club involved in boxing. Someone who is able to put big shows on and not care about financial losses. Just quality of fights.
Cause things like Tsveenpurev v Asiku would be a cracker.

The problem with boxing is that it's about putting on a show, people buy into personalities as much as skills, that's why Micky Ward and Gatti were able to make so much money from their fights, people bought into their back stories because the could relate to them easily.

In most sports, that's not such a factor, in boxing it is everything.

I feel for all of these African imports, who fight in the Uk, Germany, etc, they don't get a fair shake of the dice, because for a promoter, they are an unsaleable commodity.
