Merging Threads

Is it just me or is anyone else getting a little bit pissed off with all the merging of threads lately? I can understand the mods are only trying to tidy the place up a bit but many genuine stand alone threads seem to be getting all merged/mashed up lately.
I just poped on here now to check the thread 'Froch start time' or whatever it was titled as i'm heading out and would like to know what time to be back in for. I now see that this thread has also been merged/mashed into the ever expanding Froch v Pascal thread. I had to trawl through that just to get the ring walk times.
Come on mods, calm it down a little. Merging is ok by me if two threads are of very similar content, or if there are a bunch of threads all on the one fighter on the front page, but otherwise threads should be left alone. It never used to be like this around here so whatever's changed needs re-evaluating IMO!

I know what you mean. The mods are being nice and efficient, I'll give 'em that. But it can see a bit too hands on and regulated at times.

I agree!
Merging stuff is a pain.
Wha happened to my 'Wad de blood clot' 1 and 2 threads?
They would have been legendary, that bloody Emerson - he's a right ponce!

I dont know I always get annoyed when people needlessly make new threads, it happened yesterday some newb made a new thread saying Enzo was now facing Ellis when we had been discussing it for hours in another thread that was about 4 threads down.
One thing I could never stand about the eastside current board is whenever a result just happens everybody and I mean everybody makes a thread about it when one would suffice.

Yep agree, there CAN be too much of a good thing. 3,4,5 threads on the same subject is too much, but two threads on different angles of same fight is fine - like the useful start time for instance. Calm down now boys

Seconded. We didn't require 5 Hatton threads, which we had last weekend.

on the subject, would it not be better to have a rbr thread for the froch bill as a whole? same for the excel bill?

Give us our rambling parallel narratives/rants back! I suppose it's good maintenance to reduce clutter, mind.

Too much thread merging I agree fully.... unfortunately admins are like traffic wardens/cops - they are jobsworths who get high on power and lose any sense of reason........

not all of us, some people get sick of people treating the place like a playground

I agree it's important to retain integrity with this forum. BUT I have never seen the forum degrade into a free for all, playground, internet forum.
I think the admins are acting too harshly - like prison screws

Its probably because everyone is desperate to come up with new threads with unbelievably shit titles like
'Thats why we love boxing'
How very descriptive and helpful on a boxing forum.

Yes I find it extremely annoying. I did a great 'WELL DONE KELL' thread after he'd ko'd mcintyre and the mods merged it with SOUTHPAW's topic and it looked like
he'd started the thread.

I, along with almost everybody else it seems, agree that the merging has gone overboard. Nothing wrong with presenting different angles on the same fight/subject. And if you're reading through a merged thread for the first time, the context can be all over the place.
So what if there are multiple threads about something, even the SAME thing? Anything not worth discussing or being discussed elsewhere will naturally fade into obscurity anyway.

It's been in the forum rules since the summer that posters should check before creating new threads. I can't comment about the merging that's happened over the weekend, as I wasn't here. But it looks to me from the logs that it was justified.
Have we honestly got nothing better to talk about than 5 threads all on Hatton, like the 22nd. Which all degenerate into the same thing; "Hatton is hit", "No he isn't". "He ducked Witter", "No he didn't". "YOu don't know much about boxing", "You're a twat". Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat, rinse repeat. We had 3 threads for one card's RBR on Sat.
A bigger issue than merging threads on this forum is people verbally attacking other posters, which isalso a breach of forum rules Perhaps I should create a thread to discuss that as well.
You're welcome to take any complaints up with our Emporer; lawllb. But I don't see why creating a thread on this is necessary.

Iagree with that. DG has been attacked by Carbo and Spud

I think it's a good incentive to think twice before opening a new thread. God knows I was sick of page one of the forum containing four Hatton threads and three Khan threads at all times.
Hopefully, over time, this will mean fewer superfluous threads as people get used to seeing them merged if not unique enough to stand alone, which should ultimately lead to fewer merged threads.
One caveat: it should be done carefully. There are some threads which are clearly stand alone, although connected with existing threads. These should not be merged.

I agree. For instace, the Enzo v Herbie and Enzo v Alvarez threads were stand alone because they were two seperate issues. But a Hatton thread for whom he should fight next and another saying he should fight DLH next should be merged.
